I've read in a couple of Beatle biographies that John's father got back in touch with him when the Beatles first got really popular. John, being John, wasn't impressed. His father hadn't been in his life for years and gee, when John is making money his dad showed up!

Heard about this on an FM radio show the other day. In 1965, Freddy Lennon cut a record. Capitalizing on John's fame at the time. According to Wikipedia, John was ashamed or embarassed about this, and asked Brian Epstein to use his influence to "bury" the record. It never made the charts.

I can hear "Imagine" and "Watching the Wheels Go Round" in this song- so strange. Like John listened to it and it was burned into his memory. Fred sounds so much like John too!

This is very interesting DTM....timing as well, being 1965...considering an almost 5 year gap

The Beatles

Yeah, we all have our own baggage, as I'm sure John did.

His or ours is no more important IMHO....he just had/made/was given the opportunity, the talent or the gift to share it.

Thanks for sharing this.

I was a rabid Beatles fan way back then...this is something that I never read or knew....:notworthy:

One never finds out how much baggage until you start doing genealogy.

Great find! Never heard of this. His speaking voice is almost identical. I wish there was more actual 'singing' going on so I could hear the difference. Is there any more of his stuff to listen to???

I think Julian might think John was a chip off the old block because John was certainly off doing his thing with Yoko in Jul's formative years! He was a much more devoted father to Sean; lived long enough to learn, I guess.

The Wiki article also says that Freddy went on to marry a 19 year old in 1969 and had two sons before his death in 1976. John had two half-brothers he never met!

Lennon's family life seems very odd. Strangely, we don't know much about it. Wasn't he raised by his Aunt? And a month ago or so I heard on the news a clip they found that Lennon said he once almost had sex with his mother!! What? Did anyone else hear that?
