Tesla the big black fellow in the picture there has the weirdest dreams. He had another one last night. He was sleeping on the couch, and gives forth with these big loud howls---like the Klingon death howl or something. I had to wake him up to shut him up!

I just love it when the dogs dream! I've seem them moving all their legs like they're running, and at the same time, they're making barking sounds! I wonder what Tesla was dreaming about? :veryhappy

Biker wakes Taarna whenever she dreams, unless she's wagging her tail. He's afraid she's having a bad dream!
I don't know what she has bad to dream about, he's had her since she was a pup, and she has never had a bad day in her life! The only exception is the day she was spade, and that was MUCH harder on him than it was on her! He was a wreck!

Ya gotta love them great big tough guys with mushy hearts when it comes to animals! I can only imagine how hard it was on him when Taarna got back from the doggie hospital! :17::27:

Lord, Taarna was only a few months old and it tore me up. She was crying and yelping...I've tried to make it up to her since then.
Miss IG has made her fat and she's working hard on me.

I know the feeling Biker. It tears me up to take my dogs for shots. I have to leave while they're doing it. Poor little guys are terrified. When the Doc was putting the needle into me to freeze me for my knee surgery, I was shaking like a leaf with fear and I told him that I now know what my dogs go through at the vets. He laughed!

One time when Bessie was having a vivid dream - her legs moving very fast, her paws opening and closing, her body shuddering, little yelpy sounds coming from her throat - I got concerned and gently woke her up. She gave me a look that said, "How could you disturb such a great dream"!! She was really upset that I woke her. So, I'll never do that again.
I had a thought the last time I caught Bessie staring into "space" seemingly at nothing. We often wonder if the dog is seeing Spirits or Ghosts or Angels. My thought was, do dogs day dream, fantasize? I mean, they have dreams in their sleep, so, could they possible be capable of day dreams?

I would bet they can daydream. They say that they can't reason things out logically. Nonsense, they can and I've seen my dogs do it. If they can play, I bet they can daydream about running like the wind through a big field on a beautiful summer day.

I would love to be "haunted" by all my animal friends.
Starting with the little Empress*. We had her 11+ years. As she got older, she started getting "weird"- doggie dementia or something. A rainstorm would terrify her. One day I was at work and a storm came up. She apparently went berserk and got herself through the gate- she was small enough to push through it. And wouldn't you know, she got in the road? I still feel responsible because I feel like she was looking for me.
Anyhow, it would be a comfort to me if there was a little Jack doggie haunting the back yard!
*Her name comes from the children's book, "Babar and the Ghost" The Ghost's name was The Baron Bardula!
