This for you thin blooded folks, for you my friends caught in Cold Weather that you are NOT accustomed to.

Keep hydrated!!!!! Drink lots of water, juice and more water. Until you have lived in it you don't realize that you can become dehydrated as easily in very cold weather as you do in the Desert!

Sorry folks, but, go easy on the alcohol. It gives you a false sense of warmth and this is deadly. Your brain thinks your body is warm, so, as you leave that party or bar, you fail to bundle up, you don't put on your hat and gloves, you don't button up yur coat. Hypothermia sets in and you feel an even warmer sweet wooziness and you lie back for "just a minute" in your cold car and you DON'T WAKE UP. Your frozen body is found the next morning.

Just as "A little buzzed" makes you unsafe behind the wheel, "A little buzzed" makes you unsafe in the cold. Stay home and drink. Make plans for your friends to spend the night at your place after the Party if alcohol is served.

When you get dressed for going outdoors, put cotton or silk next to your skin. Cotton/silk tee shirt, cotton/silk sock liners. If you are removing snow or gathering your Critters or even just walking, even in minus zero temps, you will sweat and this sweat must be wicked away from your body.

In fact, at the first hint of breaking even a slight sweat, take a break from whatever you are doing. You don't necessarily have to go back indoors, as the cold/hot/cold/hot can lead to a head cold and worse. Just take a little break where you are. Sit on a log for a few minutes. Lean on the snow shovel for a little bit.

Do NOT give in to the temptation to loosen your scarf or coat. You can remove your hat for a moment to wipe any sweat from your brow but then put that hat right back on.

If your fingers or toes suddenly stop hurting from freezing and start to feel "warm", FROSTBITE is setting in! Best defense is warm and sensible boots in the first place. Ditto gloves.

OK, so the temp dropped suddenly and unexpectedly, or it was colder than you thought, for any of a hundred reasons you have been outdoors and you got really cold, freezing even.

When you get back into a warm place WARM YOURSELF UP SLOWLY! Carefully sip a warm NOT HOT (oh dear please forgive the shouting, I just feel passionate about this) beverage.

Here's a visual for ya. You have all, at one time or another, put a frozen steak on the hot grill or hot fry pan. You know what happens to that steak when it hits that hot surface. Same thing happens to a frozen or even very cold body and/or body part that is warmed too quickly.

Do not rub white-cold fingers or toes, you will damage the tissue and I mean damage. Gently warm those digits with the warm digits of a friend or other warm body. Use barely warm moist cloths, slowly working your way up to warmer cloths.
Drink water. Hypothermia of a body and/or body parts greatly dehydrates it. The dehydration compounds the hypothermia.
Indulge in that bracing Brandy later.
Those needles of fire that seem to pierce your fingers and toes as they warm up are to be expected. Go ahead and cuss up a hot streak :laughing: You can gently message those fingers and toes of fire to aid the returning circulation.

IF your fingers, toes, nose, ears, any body part becomes numb to where you can no longer feel them, you know, like they've been shot with a local anesthetic, (Ok I'm gonna shout again) GET TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM DO NOT PASS GO DO NOT COLLECT $200. Get to the ER! Dangerous frostbite has already set in.

Buckwheat! Toasted buckwheat even more so. You've seen those bowls of serial following you after breakfast in those commercials, such as MaltoMeal. Well, boys and girls, it's really true for buckwheat. Buckwheat is the most yang grain, even more yang when toasted. That yang vitality will stay with you pretty much throughout the day, so be sure to eat buckwheat in the mornings.


How about something for staying cool in summer?

Well, here again, boys and girls, there is a solution: Coconut oil. Yes, indeed, coconut oil in your hair, even if just before shampooing, will keep you cool all day long. What if it's so hot that you can't tell? Well, just give it a try in the winter ... you'll experience alllll the proof you need that it works. Bundle up real tight with many heavy layers if you try this in the winter.

There are five states of matter, with substances operating with either higher or lower factors of yin or yang within each state of matter. For example, salt is exceedingly yang, though does it keep you awake when you are sleepy, does it optimize your digestion when you eat it, do you feel increased heat when you ingest it? The answer to all of these is "no", despite each of such symptoms being 'typically' a yang experience when applied to ingested foods. The realm in which the yang of salt operates is liquid. Salt can facilitate drying up material, especially fleshy material, and it can facilitate retaining water within one's body.

If you have a sytrofoam cup, preferably three of them, pour some water into each, perhaps half full. Leave one cup of water as a sample of normal, then in the second cup put a teaspoon of salt, watch what happens. If you have some ground up ginseng, put the ginseng powder into the third cup of water, watch what happens. Ginseng is also very yang, whereas it has properties that operate well with fire and air, not present in salt.

To maximize the cooling influences of coconut oil, it's best to put it not only in your hair before shampooing, but also on your armpits and crotch. These are highly saturated lymphatic zones, which is why coconut oil is so cooling there. Just as salt is an extremely yang influence upon liquid element, coconut oil operates in the liquid realm also, though demonstrates liquid elemental properties differently. Fire, of course, is hot, whereas liquid is cooling. While sweating, when we are hot, facilitates cooling through evaporating water from our bodies, coconut oil can facilitate cooling without evaporation because of its liquid elemental properties beyond the conventional properties of water as an evaporative as it relates to our bodies.

One thing to be careful of is ingestion of coconut oil. If and when it gets into the blood stream, it may contribute to clogging the capilaries, or even veins if used at too high a volume in relation to our body's capabilities to throw it off. Decades ago coconut oil was used in candies as an emulsifier, and was also used in baby formulas for it gave that chubby baby look to newborns, a cosmetic symptom of what should come naturally when the baby is breastfed and eating properly and digesting proberly. Some chubbiness in babies is good, whereas the chubbiness derived through coconut oil in the baby formula is artificial, cosmetic and clogs the baby's capilaries, veins and arteries. Children raised with such feeding have been found having heart attacks at 12 years old, some times while playing sports. Applying coconut oil to your armpits, groin and briefly in your hair will not suffice to bring about such clogging in your body.

Of the five elements: solid, liquid, fire, air, and ether, the middle threee, liquid, fire and air, are variable within our bodies, changing from moment to moment. Modifying the balance between these three elements will also affect healing when the elements are out of balance. Of all the forms of medicine today, homeopathy is the most subtle, the methodology that can bring about the greatest and most optimizing results when used properly.

I know it's hard to think of preparing for cold weather with such terrible heat waves going on. But Winter and Cold will be here before you know it!
