'Spook Words' - Internet Spying & Privacy

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but I find it fascinating:

I started collecting 'spook words' this after reading about a rumor that the major intelligence agencies would scan all messages floating around on the Internet looking for something interesting, This is why some paranoid folks say the Internet is so slow, The NSA says that they don't, but that's what the NSA would say. Another rumor to the story is that the NSA and all those other three lettered agencies just don't have the bandwidth to look at all those messages, and that its all those people farting around watching Bugs Bunny on Real Audio from work sucking down all that bandwidth.
There may be some truth to the rumors, digital wiretaps have been done on the Internet looking for particular words used by criminal hackers and only a few messages that weren't related to the case were captured and dissseminated.

The idea here is that if lots of people add suspicious words to their messages, the world's intel agencies will be too busy with spurious input that they will have to give up reading it all.

Anyone who has read the source code of my homepage or Prayers Pay will see the list below with some additions here and there, You might want to sprinkle some of these words into your X-headers for a little fun. Most to nearly all of these words have been collected using open sources, (books, online, seminars, conventions, broadcasts, movies, etc...)But I am always looking for more. Mail me if you have any.

This is true. I know in Canada that our own agency, (LETTERS), has a system that looks for keywords and phrases, some of which you listed above. :)
Rumours have it though that the system is fast in colleting the data, but it has a huge backlog because eventually this stuff has to be read by a real human.
So the modern art of spying has become more burocracy, and less cloak and dagger.

Speaking of intelligence agencies surveiling the net for words, it seems that this is only one of many activities.

"Decryprition" seems to be another that is heavily invested in. Decryption is a process which involves monitoring for encrypted communication written in "code" or and the unscrambling the content of the communication

The NSA has a new code breaking supercomputer called TRANSLTR, which apparently can crack enctrypted/coded communication in seconds.

Then of course there's ECHELON ( code name) also created by the NSA just after WWII, which became an international/global network of computer systems surveillance with British, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian Governments, each intercepting all fax, telex, e-mail and satellite communications in their region of the world.

ECHELON.... a pet peeve of mine!

There has been much Gov't sponsored R & D of amazing technology for ECHELON throughout the last half-century... seriously, it blows the mind! They had the technology to monitor all radio frequencies, telegraph and telex, phone, fax etc. very well-deveolped by the end of the '50s. In fact, they had some top-secret technology in the '60s that wasn't even supposed to have been created or even thought do-able until THIS century; what many of us believe to be brand-new amazing communication technology has actually been around - and was developed for ECHELON - for decades. ALL FOR THE SAKE OF MONITORING ALL FORMS OF PRIVATE COMMUNICATION! It ruffles my fur; to spy on its own citizenry, the gov't gets the worlds most brilliant minds together to make amazing technological advances while they tell us they can't even sycnchronize traffic lights.

I agree with Art about cell phones; they should all be powderized and buried in Mel's Hole. While we've got these crap-ass little staticky things, our BIG BRO is hoarding technology that'd make our heads spin 'round to even think such circuits could be made. And such great technological advances come from the project that insists the unwashed masses are criminals that deserve no privacy at all! :mad:

OK, Code 101; you need a :Code Book:

Here is what I have created so far. In my "code book" "Rosies Bakery" represents airplanes. Why? because Rosie was the icon for the women who worked in the Defense Factories, building, among other things, airplane parts. It's a detail of Americana that today's Middle East Terrorist probably doesn't know about.

"Pie" usually has a top crust and a bottom crust, IOW a shell. OK, Middle Eastern Terrorists know all about pies, so this is the "Purloined Letter" (read Edgar Allen Poe).

Now, when I was growing up, my dad always had the baseball game on the radio or TV or even both! Back then, when there was a dispute that cleared the dugouts, all team members fighting on the field, we called it a "rhubarb". Another bit of Americana Trivia that our Terrorist Friends probably don't know. So, rhubarb is an explosion of men out on the field, or in short, an explosion. A bomb.

Now, what kind of plane and what kind of bomb? Cold rhubarb pie is a conventional bomb dropped by conventional bombers.
Hot rhubarb pie is a nuke, dropped by what ever plane drops those things.

Kim, Kimberly or any diminutive of that name is Korea. So, here is my "chatter" de-coded:

"The decision is pending to drop a Nuclear Weapon on North Korea". When where and how comes in another message.

Staying with the pie theme from Rosies Bakery: any berry pie is a Daisy Bomb. Why? Because berry pies are filled with lots of berries, just as a Daisy bomb is filled with a lot of other bombs.
This off the top of my head, so I'll have to give some thought to Apple Pie, Raisin, Mincemeat and so on.

Any cream pie is a Bunker Buster. Chocolate Cream Pie is Africa (the location is in another message with another code I haven't come up with yet)
Vanilla Cream Pie is Europe somewhere. Again, the details of where in Europe is something I'm working on.
Lemon Merangue Pie is somewhere in the Middle East, where lemons grow or could grow because of climate if not soil conditions.
Key Lime Pie same explaination as Lemon Pie but the word Key denotes a Key Position, so the code chatter that follows will be specific.

This is all still just off the top of my head mind you. I could give more Code if I really sat down and thought about it. But, I hope I'm making a point. One of the points IS when Home Land Security takes a close look at "chatter" of known or suspected Terrorists, they are NOT going to find something so obvious as "My neighbor's white house is going to be remodeled soon", unless said Terrorists are really stupid, or think our Coverts are stupid.
So, when you read again the list of words HomeLand Security is on the look out for, you might think twice before judging said list as "lame" or "stupid" or "rediculous".
