President refuses to sign legislation to repay $5-billion lost by consumers in Britain, the Netherlands; issue goes to referendum; aspirations to join EU in jeopardy.
No kidding the Icelandic people don't want to be on the hook for the repayment as they believe it was reckless trading within the UK & Dutch banks that got them in this mess to begin with. The European Union is delaying Iceland's entry into the Union until matters get resolved (which means repayment). Good for Iceland for standing pat.
