I play Bach on the piano, so please don't think I'm stuck on the following, but they are dear to me.

I bet this guy can play Bach, too:

Ray Charles, Mississippi Mud.

Seems like bad timing with the seriousness of the Haiti situation, but think of it a bit like nervous laughter. Katrina folks and Tsunami survivors are no doubt reminded of their recurring nightmares about now. Hang in there, folks!

Sincere thanks, too, to those who are helping as best they can.:arms:

The GENIUS Mr. Charles!!!! One of my favorites. Are you kidding? That man could play ANYTHING. Thank you, earthist.

This is some kind of karma...or whatever....
I asked Judee how to post something from Youtube and she told me to ask you. So, puleeeese 'splain it to me.

Also, is there a way I could email that Ray video to a friend. He will freak.

You are right, earthist. It has brought to the surface memories we want to bury. My immediate reaction to the earthquake was to donate to the Red Cross, who helped me. The number of dead is incomprehensible. Many of those who survive will never get over it. I have known the fear.

This is Aaron Neville's vocal tribute to Katrina's damage. The song is about the flood of 1927 and is named "Louisiana 1927." You must recall that a huge metropolitan area was flooded. But, what is not shown is the "first responders"...citizens with boats and trucks from west of New Orleans. And, those who came from other states--like VOguy--who flew out the gravely ill.

New Orleans will always be home in my heart.

I pray for the earthquake victims, especially the children.

I think you will find it is worth watching.

It would be nice to see Wynton Marsalis, or Dirty Dozen Brass Band in one of the classic French Quarter venues.

One or more of those posts should make sense to you. They're all correct, just stated in different words.

Email the link to your friend, not the vid.

Hey, Mr. VO, aren't there any Buckeye songs???? :icon16:

You're right about the Vieux Carre, but most of those videos are hard to hear over the crowd when a Louisiana song is sung.

There are a few good Buckeye bands.

How about some Polish Cajon music. Go to Petosky to the Polka Festival & Beer Party. :)

There is a group up there that does a set of songs using some of the Cajon instruments but with the Polka beat. It's a riot to watch and listen to. They were at the Cherry Festival in T.C. last year.

Michigan cherries....yum. We used to have a ski home near there.

The Michigan unemployment went over 15%, VO.

It's actually more that that. Granholm's numbers from Lansing reflect present unemployment claims. But if you factor in those who are now off the roll, as well as those who have "given up", there are larger numbers.

Personally, I think that if someone looses their job, and they go through the rolls of unemployment, they should still be counted. The problem is, politicians don't want to admit the numbers.

Edit... note the BLS's numbers (http://data.bls.gov/map/servlet/map.servlet.MapToolServlet?survey=la)
