Hey! Anybody got a recipe for a good, thick Beef Stew?

Judee, where are some of your specials?!

I know, I know. I haven't done too much cooking since I've been on my own, but I'll come up with something soon. Promise... I used to do a lot of stew, but never had a 'recipe'! With stew, browning and seasoning is the key. Throw in carrots, onion, garlic, beans, peas, celery, and whatever other vegies you want, along with red potatoes and cook in a slow cooker to get those flavors blended. You can even throw in tomatoes if you want, for a different kick and flavor. Serve with homemade biscuits or bread, and pig out!

Judee, I've been meaning to ask you....You said you found a crock pot that was made in the USA, what brand was it? We're in the market for a new one, and I refuse to buy Chinese!

I'm holding you to posting some of your recipes! Something tells me you're one hell of a cook!

I know what you mean about cooking for one, it sucks! One of my greatest joys is cooking for Biker now. We have a lot of fun in the kitchen together, and Lord, can that guy eat!

Hi IronsGold! So you guys are in the 'winter cooking mode' eh? Good for you.

You, know I wouldn't swear an oath that parts of the cooker I bought aren't made in you know where, but it's a fabulous cooker. It's the ONLY one that I know of on the market, where you can take the actual insert and brown stuff on top of the stove, and then put the insert right back into the cooker part and plug it in. It makes a HUGE difference in the taste, believe me. I never had a slow cooker before, because everything seemed so bland without browning, or else, you had to dirty up other pans, etc. just to pre-prepare the food, and that defeated the purpose to me! The one I bought is 'All-Clad' metal crafters, 7 Qt. Electric slow cooker, Model No. 99005. I bought it out of the 'Chef's Catalog', but the web site where you can see the cooker is www.allclad.com. It wasn't cheap, but worth every penny!!!

This isn't my recipe, but here's one for beef stew. Only thing is I would add a lot more vegies!

l l/2 lbs. round steak, cut in cubes
1/3 cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
l large onion, coarsely shopped
l large green pepper, diced
28 ounces diced tomatoes
1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
3 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 carrots, sliced

Directions:
Put beef, flour, salt and pepper in crockpot, stirring well to coat meat. Add remaining ingredients. Cover. Cook on low for 8 hours, or 5 hours on low, and 2 hours on high.

I don't like the fact that there isn't any 'browning', and there aren't enough vegies to suit me, otherwise, it's a great recipe.

Have fun you two! :approve:
