My latest poster - a work in progress. :biglaugh: The color scheme needs help, imo.

Wow!!! Squid, I had no idea you were so talented. I love the composition and the balance in it!! Do you have any others you could share here?

Thanks for the input... it's needed, as I have an opportunity to do an "installation", but I have no idea if the work is good enough to warrant such a thing. I do them for my own amusement, and since I'm a printer by trade, they end up populating the walls of my place! And yes, Judee, there are other I could post. However, I would like to post them in an album attached to my profile, but had trouble doing so earlier. I'll try again. Maybe the new format has a quirk that I am unaware of.

Very nice. So that's what the Energizer bunny looks like on the inside.

Outstanding work and graphic Squid!! :notworthy
As the creator and artist, I and I'm sure many would like to read what is behind your work, or at minimum a high level cursory comment on what you are communicating.
More than interested in your choice of the term "lepus" :wink1:

Thanks Alpha.
Well, this one doesn't have any clear cut message. Here is my thought progression:
I remembered the plot device (in literature & theater) known as "deus ex machina" . A deus ex machina (or, "god from the machine") occurs when the characters find themselves in an inextricable situation. At the last moment, an unexpected intervention of previously unknown character, ability, or object sets them free. This was done often in the theaters of ancient Greece, and many times an actual crane was used to simulate a miraculous flight from danger, as the actors were lifted high into the air - god from the machine.
Usually, this device is criticized, because it lacks creativity and can cause a suspension of belief. So, I was making fun of myself a little bit in that regard.
"Lepus" is a genus of rabbit - a jackrabbit or hare, in particular. So, in the poster we have "rabbits from the machine". The idea that machinery can be used to simulate the power of god has moved beyond the stage, unfortunately, but it's an illusion no matter where it is employed - like when a rabbit is pulled from a hat by a simple magician.
I don't know, just a jumble of ideas which became an illustration of a mechanical rabbit!
I have others with more direct messaging, like this:

Well, it's a hobby right? And we've all got blank walls to cover from time to time.
Thanks for your interest everyone.

I was curious if there was any link or symbolism to the constellation Lepus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepus_%28constellation%29) or a reference or parody in some way to Night of the Lepus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_of_the_Lepus)....and you think you have jumbled thoughts!!!

Actually, yes. In an earlier version there was circuit-like structure at the back of the hare's head which I created to resemble the constellation "lepus". It didn't make the final cut, though. I've included stylized representations of various star patterns in a few images. I don't know that much about the lore, so it's hard for me to display them in a meaningful way. They usually end up looking tacked on.
Night of the Lepus looks awesome. I'm going to see if there is a video clip...

Whoa. Disturbing, Alpha!

What made me think of the Constellation Lepus was your top graphic in the piece....the antenna as if it is looking or receiving transmissions from another source....
The Night of the Lepus....well mutated, carnivorous rabbits trying to kill regular ordinary people...I think you'll understand where my head went with that one :wink1:
