Tess Pennington of Ready Nutrition demonstrates some best practices and a multi-barrier process for packaging food for short and long term storage in mylar bags (or large food grade buckets) with oxygen absorbers, a vacuum seal, and a heat seal.
With proper storage techniques the shelf life of your food preps can exceed 20 years for most dry goods like rice, wheat, sugar, beans, oats, wheat and pasta.

Now if only someone could figure out a way to dehydrate water!
Some of my FB Friends are Military Wives, who point out that if/when the GuvMint shuts down, the Commissaries will close! 2 of those ladies live OverSeas where it isn't always easy nor cheap to get food "on the economy". They plan to dip into some of their Food Storage.

Wow,,,that blond lady is just dreadfully awfull,,,she is like finger nails on a chalk board to my ears. Even watching her trying to be animated,,,it's like what Ralph Waldo Emerson said,,,"who you are speaks so loudly I cannot hear what you say".
That being said,,,the chunky lady was really very very nice and informative.
Funny,,,my mom was just over looking over my stuff,,,and she suggested I get metal trash cans,,to store dry goods in, so mice can't get to them.
I don't have mice,,but,,,I thought that was a good idea to share here.
