I was forced to migrate from Outlook Express when Windows decided to nix it. I don't like it, however that's what came with this computer running on Windows 7.

I spent all day yesterday trying to fix a problem with Windows Live Mail with no resolution.

Here's what's happening.

If I send an email with attachments ( and no the attachments are not too large ) the email will not show as sent in my sent box, so I have no way of knowing if it was sent or not, although when I press send, it shows that the email agent is sending the email.

I called my ISP to report this. They checked all of my email settings from their end, the settings on my computer and all is fine.

When we log into Live Mail on the Bell server, it shows the emails that I have sent, as sent there in the sent folder, however when I go back to the Live Mail on my PC there is nothing in the sent folder.

They have no answer for this problem and tell me it's a Microsoft problem and to call their tech help which I did.

The Microsoft Tech person on the phone told me that yes, of course they would help me fix it...that it would take about an hour...they would remove my free AVG anti virus and install some microsoft antivirus and do some other things....all for a fee of $69.99!!!!! At first they told me this fee was for lifetime support, however when I questioned them further, what it means is once I pay that, the next time I call their help will only be $40!!!

Well I lost it and told them it was disgusting that Gates and company hold people hostage with their products and support and the the greed of this company/monopoly is more than outrageous and I hung up on them and quickly shut down my PC as they were on my PC with live app help. :angryfire

Anyway, so much for my rant.

The end result is, is that I still have this problem with Windows Live Mail. It seems to somehow not send emails that I send with attachments to my sent box, although my settings are such that everything I send should go to the sent folder.

Anyone have any solutions for this?

Thanks in advance.

I haven't used Windows Mail on Windows7 yet, but I plan to get around to it this weekend, maybe this evening. I will reply after some experience with it. I've used Windows Mail on Vista without any problems.

Say, I just had a thought. Maybe they FIXED Windows Mail. I really don't want a "copy" of those attachments sitting in my Windows Mail "sent" box. A simple link to the file which would already be on my computer is sufficient and more efficient. I've always hated how copies of attachments ended up also stored within outbound email, it just wastes so much space.

Alpha, I'm sorry to hear you're having Microsoft problems!! I absolute HATE microsoft and their monopoly. Seeing what you're going through, I'm glad I returned a windows 7 computer that I purchased, and kept my old XP. I hope that someone here can help you.

I haven't had a chance to set this up myself, but I can say Windows 7 is pretty crappy right out of the box. A lot also has to do with how the PC vendor installed and set it up on their system. When I got this Asus EP121 slate computer, the screen looked like shit, all washed out looking, not very bright. I had to fix that by resetting the video chip settings to the chip makers recommended default parameters. I also had to go into the power options and turn the screen brightness from 3 to 10. And then when it was performing to slowly for the processor it had, I discovered Asus set the power options to limit maximum processor performance to 50%. Why in the hell would a computer manufacturer set their system up to run with one of it's arms tied behind its back? Why? That seems pretty stupid. Anyhow, it took me 3 days to fix everything wrong with Windows 7 that I could fix (or replace). Microsoft's problem is they hire idiot programmers. Also, Windows, all operating systems, should be written in native machine language by intelligent programmers and not some inefficient high level compiled language that wannabe programmers use, ha. It shouldn't require a 4 GHz processor to type a letter, ha. Microsoft programmer are all idiot morons and their products prove it.

Okay, I just set up Windows Live Mail (what's up with the "live" part?) and experienced no issues. Next, I sent myself a test message with a couple of attachments added and it went out and came back okay. My attachments are present in the copy of the test message located within thesent items folder AND within the received copy I sent to myself. So, no problem sending email with attachments here.

What happens when you click on Send/Receive? It should begin sending any email queued in your outbox. A status window should appear if sending and receiving are in progress. An error message should appear if something goes wrong. What happens during sending and receiving?

Thanks for trying to help me with this Div

I get the status message in the lower right which says it's sending the email, however it never ends up in my sent folder. I have tried waiting, for a while, click on send/receive and it shows it checking the mailbox/s however the messages with attachments never end up in the sent folder on my PC in the Windows Live Mail App. If I go and log in remotely to Windows Live Mail though, these messages are in the sent box there. Something on my PC in the Microsoft Product seems to be rejecting these or dunno. Any other email I send without attachments gets into the sent folder just fine. The tech guys at my ISP couldn't figure it out either. I wouldn't pay Microsoft to have them fix it.....fascist robbers!!

Try creating a log and see if any errors are reported.

Select "Options::Mail" from Windows Live Mail drop-down menu. Then select the "Advanced" tab. Next, click the "Maintenance" button and in the troubleshooting section select "Email" and then click "Close" and "Ok" and try "Send and Receive" again.

Doing the above created a file called "WindowsLiveMail.log" within my "C:\Users\. . . .\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail" directory. Maybe something obvious will appear in the log.

It sounds like it is simply hiding those messages from you for some reason. I would wipe out your account and re-add it. If you did a "migration" from outlook to this it is very possible the folder structure is messed up. The web version will always show it right since you are looking directly at the folders, but at home you have WLM translating what you see. Resetting things should work it out.

Thanks P. I did that migration over a year ago. Everything was o.k. regarding sending messages with attachments, until recently. It's only the emails with attachments that won't show in the sent folder on my PC :dunno: All other sent messages get deposited in the sent folder just fine.

It is a setting most likely, re-adding your account should set it back to defaults. However, you could look through your options and see if there is anything in there.

Thunderbird is still the best email client imo, you don't have to use window's crappy program fyi. If you are going to I would just use the web-based one.

Might-it have anything to do with file permissions?

I doubt it because I think WML keeps everything in one DB-type file.
