Well.....now we have parking spots for expectant mothers, parking spots for mothers with children, but none for seniors and a huge rigamaroll for the handicapped to get access and yet it seems parks for children with adults that barr adults ...what next??!!

Woman Ticketed for Sitting on a Playground Bench with No Kids
(New York-AP, Sept. 27, 2005) - It's an only in New York story. A woman was given a ticket for sitting on a park bench because she doesn't have children.
The Rivington Playground on Manhattan's East Side has a small sign at the entrance that says adults are prohibited unless they are accompanied by a child.

Forty-seven-year-old Sandra Catena says she didn't see the sign when she sat down to wait for an arts festival to start. Two New York City police officers asked her if she was with a child. When she said no, they gave her a ticket that could bring a one thousand dollar fine and 90 days in jail.

Well she can borrow one of mine next time she wants to sit on a bench.

How strange, although if I saw a park bench that said brunettes only, silly me I'd probably sit on the grass ;)

About the expectant mother parking.. when I was pregnant with my second, I had a Dr Appt. The parking lot was quite far from the hospital. And I had to drag my 18 month old child who was not cooperating with walking across this long "field of cars". There was no mom/new mom parking. I just figured "sh*t happens" and this is life. I managed to get my big butt up to the appointment unharmed :)

Our local radio show covered this story today. A lot of callers with kids were reporting getting creeped out by single, middle age men that just seem to hang around in their park.
Its just a sign of our times, and parents are just being protective of their children.
None of the callers reported getting the same creepy feelings over a single woman being in the park.
So that NY law is a reaction to the parents complaints. I guess if they had passed a law that single MEN couldn't hang around in the park, would have been considered discriminatory.
