I loved writing about this subject. A few years ago, I met a woman who had this gift. She asked me for something to hold. I gave her my watch and to my amazement, she began to spout out everything about me and my past right to the tee. I was so interested, I began to research it. What I found about this subject was outstanding. Not only can some with this gift read from object they hold, there are some that go as far as having visions of people who are not there, including the dead.

In not quite the same vein, I always loved Sherlock Holmes' ability to do this... is it the same thing? Are these people simply very observant?

Project,
I don't know about Sherlock Holmes, but Psychometry is a psychic power which allows one to divine from holding objects or touching things. It is much like readin palms, tea leaves and other psychic gifts, but much stronger in many ways.

I know, but who is to say these people are not merely gifted with observational powers? The amount of information that can be gleaned from a cursory inspection of both mannerisms, clothing, and especially a 'special item' can be quite extensive...

Perfect,
I suppose there are many, and some police departments use these people to help them solve crimes.
Alpha,
This is good, thank you.
I will try to post things on here as much as I can. sometimes I am so busy I don't have time to do all of the things I would like, but You can look for something from me now and then.
Like right now I am researching a haunting in an Ohio University. It happened a few years ago and the room that was occupied by this ghost or ghosts, has now been closed up.
I have finished another novel about Astral-travel. OBE. I experinced this myself as a child. I used to tell my parents that I could fly and they just thought it was something I made up. they would laugh and tell me, "That's nice" but I really did raise up out of my body and float around, even outside over the sidewalks and down the street. Now that I am older, I can no longer do it. It stopped right around when I started my teen years. (a long time ago) I can still remember the feeling. It was great.
I am working on a novel now about what can come out of a Oiuja Board. Scary stuff.

Oh, wow... your 'Ghostly Antiques' sounds like a book that both my wife and I might well enjoy IMMENSELY. We both are, shall we say, highly perceptive individuals in certain ways -- we're both inclined to pick even the subtlest of 'vibes' up from inanimate objects and buildings as well as people -- and, perhaps not surprisngly, we are both collectors of all manner of things, including antiques and any objects that are unusual for one reason or another!
Welcome to IW!

Nightcat,
I hope you and your wife enjoy the book and when you finish it look at the sequel. It's another adventure in the life of Clara Espy, the character who has this gift only this time it takes her into the depths of ancient Egypt and into the chambers where they mummified the bodies. If you want to buy it with paypal, go to my website and click on Inside books. I have both of them listed there for a special price.
It seems like you may have something there. Look into some instructional books on how to develop it. If you go to amazon, and type in Psychometry for your search, you will have a choice of books about this. Mine is listed there, but remember, it is fiction.
happy reading.

Jennifer, glad you're happy with your new area! :)
I'm looking forward to you sharing your experiences.
Interesting that you mention the subject of OBEs.
Rick is thinking about starting an instructional/tutorial type deck very soon on astral travel/OBEs....a kind of share, learn, practice type area. Once done, we'lll be looking forward to your input.

Sounds good to me, Alpha,
Yes I like my set up, thank you.
I am stuck in the house today and looks like the next few days. Snow, Snow and more Snow. I hope it clears up by SAt. I have a book signing at one of our Malls. I am just hanging out here off and on today. Taking a break from writing.
I cooked some soup, made some stuffed Italian shells, and cleaned the living room. WHAT A DAY!!!
Now it's time to have a nice glass of my home made wine.

Well Random,
Because I am Italian, I guess I fall right in line with what you are talking about. I don't know about the Scarpetta's so I will leave it at that.
I have been making wine for many years just like my father did. It's good for you,so drink up my friend and have a healthier life.
