Just watched a commercial about global warming. Watch the two commercials on the site. What are your thoughts?

Just in case you feel you know all there is to know about global warming or using your index finger is too difficult this fine Sunday morning, here is an important page to read through.

Take this short test to calculate your personal impact on the environment.

http://fightglobalwarming.com/carboncalculator.cfm

There are 500 million cars on the Earth. I produce 1.8 tons of CO2 with just one car. Simple calculation: 900,000,000 tons per year or 450,000,000 football fields of tropical rain forest destroyed every year. The time has come to wake up don't you think?

Here's a more specific calculator if you care about our planet. If not for you, how about the children?

Sorry blackeyes - busy weekend... I'm of two minds regarding global warming. I feel that, yes... it is happening. I don't think that we can do anything about it, per se, because it is an uncontrollable, natural occurrance which is not being clearly explained by those in the know. This could be because of the possible frightening result, whatever that could be... or because of the gigantic storms that would happen on the way... probably a little of all the reasons you could think of. Whatever... I don't think that we are being told everything (quel surprise...)

However, we can manage what goes on around us that we can control, i.e... the pollution that we as humans generate and make our immediate lives more miserable than they need to be. Blaming the population for global warming is a stupid excuse for TPTB not being able to or not wanting to tell us what is really going on.

Re commercials... I've seen both commercials on TV and find that the train has more of an effect/surprise on the watcher. Pretty brilliant, I'd say.

No one needs to tell us anything, the literature has been published for decades.... We can also say we don't believe in gravity since no one has satisfactorily explained it to us, but until we have learned basic physics and the associated science, how can we expect to understand these complex processes? The news can't explain it to you, nor can newspapers or almost any magazine. This is a huge subject with tons of experimentation behind it.

The conclusions of that research are debatable, but the science is there, and has been for a long time.

How you compare
You: 7.9 tons of CO2
Average 2-person American Household: 16.9 tons of CO2

Thanks for replying guys. I feared that this topic had been discussed to death. I to agree that there is more to this story than what we are being told. Why do they still think in this day and age of endless technology and information that we would flee in fear at the news of an impending disaster. Yes some will freak but I don't believe the majority. How long before the people of the world take control of their own destinies and stop allowing the so called leaders from treating us as children?

its a great area of debate, most of us don't want to take responibility for our lifestyle let alone pay for it.

I believe we stewards of this planet and if we don't accept responibility, Mother Earth will reject us has fleas.
