Greetings, fellow Texan. I read this earlier, it looks like MoD really stands for "Ministry of Deception". Is anybody really surprised by this?

Well guess someone over there is talking a bit.
Art had Nick Pope on last night regarding this article " Britain wide open to alien invasion " (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/11/10/brit_aliens/)
The salient points of the article are as follows:
"During his time as the head of the Ministry of Defense UFO project, Nick Pope was persuaded into believing that other life forms may visit Earth and, more specifically, Britain."
"When he began his job, he too was skeptical about UFOs, but access to classified files on the subject and investigation of a series of spectacular UFO sightings gradually changed his mind. "
"One incident which persuaded him of the existence of alien life forms was in 1993. There were reports of a 'vast, triangular-shaped craft' spotted flying over RAF bases in the West Midlands.
*Most of the witnesses were police and military personnel.*
Hundreds of members of the public also had sightings over a period of several hours."
"Mr. Pope said: 'These sort of incidents are why I get so frustrated.' ...He complains that the project he once ran is now 'virtually closed' down, leaving the country 'wide open' to aliens."
"...While Mr. Pope says that there is no evidence of hostile intent, he insists it cannot be ruled out."
Pope actually said there were things he knew that he could not talk about....breach of security, likely breach of life perhaps.

I don't know what to think about this September 25th article. It seems to me that either (a) the Defense Intelligence Staff was genuinely reluctant to have the public know that it was interested in the UFO phenomenon, especially if it was not fundable within the government, or (b) the DIS did not want the public to focus attention on DI55 for other, non-UFO, reasons, or (c) the British Government is actually trying to provoke interest in the UFO phenomenon at this point as a way of directing attention from other British intelligence activities. That's what comes immediately to my mind. What do you think?
