Live Earth branded a foul-mouthed flop

Peak performance: Madonna takes her turn at Wembley
Live Earth has been branded a foul-mouthed flop.
Organisers of the global music concert - punctuated by swearing from presenters and performers - had predicted massive viewing figures.
But BBC's live afternoon television coverage attracted an average British audience of just 900,000.
In the evening, when coverage switched from BBC2 to BBC1, the figure rose to just 2.7 million.
And the peak audience, which came when Madonna sang at Wembley, was a dismal 4.5 million. Three times as many viewers saw the Princess Diana tribute on the same channel six days before.
Two years ago, Live 8 drew a peak television audience of 9.6million while Live Aid notched 10million in 1985.
The BBC blamed the poor figures on Saturday's good weather and said its Wimbledon tennis coverage had drawn away afternoon viewers.
Critics said however that the public had simply snubbed what they saw as a hypocritical event.
Musicians including Bob Geldof, Roger Daltrey and the Pet Shop Boys pointed out that a concert highlighting climate change had itself generated huge carbon emissions.
Performers were criticised for flying to concerts that were staged simultaneously on seven continents.
The BBC's coverage, which ran for 15 hours from 12.30pm on Saturday to 4am yesterday, also sparked dozens of complaints about bad language.
The swearing started at 1.30pm when Phil Collins, the first act on in London, used the f-word while singing with his band Genesis.
Razorlight singer Johnny Borrell used the same expletive a few minutes later in one of his songs. And Chris Rock swore while introducing fellow comic Ricky Gervais, who soon followed suit.
The bad language prompted a number of angry postings on BBC messageboards.
One viewer wrote: "Why did the BBC transmit this during daytime TV when many children will be watching? Why hasn't an apology been immediately forthcoming?" Another said: "It was disgusting behaviour." Other comments included: "It was pretty bad at that time of day" and "There is a line to be drawn".

Not very interested in commercial reviews. Was just interested to see if anybody else at the IW had watched any of it.
I enjoyed the concert and I am one of those who believe what Gore is telling us. I cannot imagine what he could possibly gain from pushing Global Warming if it really isn't a threat to the planet. On the other hand, those who are against it have much to gain don't they?
The F word doesn't offend me and I would suspect the majority of the viewing audience as well. After all, it goes with the territory. There were the usual parental discretion warnings throughout the telecast as well.

Here's an update on Gore's home energy improvement project. Nice that he can afford it, wish I could. Hopefully, one day this will be a matter of course in building construction.

If you were waiting for Al Gore to follow through on his promise to make his Nashville, TN home a model "green" home, wait no more.
Here it is - the new rooftop of Al Gore's house with spanking new solar panels

Al Gore's "Green" Home Almost Ready. Is He?
In an Associated Press interview, Gore responded to the phony attacks levelled against him a few months ago by a conservative think tank in Tennessee for consuming too much energy
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Al Gore, the environmental activist stung by criticism over his house's energy efficiency, said Friday that renovations are nearly complete to make it a model "green" home.
"This plan has been in the works for a long time," the former vice president said in an interview with The Associated Press. "The only thing that has changed is that we're more public about it because of the misleading attack by a global-warming denier group."
Gore's renovation project, which he said has been in the works for months, seeks to meet the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED, standards established by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Now, I'm no environmental guru (as I'm sure there are people here on Truth & Progress with far greater knowledge on the subject than me) but it seems to me that Gore is a man who practices what he preaches. After his neighborhood council passed new zoning laws - ones that previously prohibited the installation of solar panels - Gore said that he'd be able to take the following additional steps
* install a geothermal system that will, among other things, drastically reduce the cost of heating his pool.
* upgrade windows and ductwork.
* install more energy-efficient light bulbs.
* create a rainwater collection system for irrigation and water management.
Have a look at the picture, pretty impressive!

Looks like he's starting to "walk the walk", the site you quoted is quite Pro-Gore if you check the home page. http://www.truthandprogress.com/frontPage.do
If those panels were recently installed I'm sure someone will publish his updated utility records and stats like they did last winter, they at that time also criticized him for all the suv's he owned, but I see his son was driving a Toyota Prius when he's was arrested last week.

Rusty Humphries tore this one up from top to bottom last week. I would add solar panels to my home. If I knew our family of four was not out $2,500.00 a year in hidden "green" expenses. Every family of four in America!
Grin and spend it wisely to help curb China's contribution to greenhouse passed gases!
Great carbon credits concerts worldwide anyway. Including one very short one outside in the top of Alaska that lasted all of twenty minutes.

Wonder what the $2500 per year is in hidden costs? Would you have a breakdown MK? Many people pay much more than that for heat alone. My bill equals that using traditional fuels.
The concept of global warming is more of political issue than a scientific one.
FYI...the scientists who performed at Live earth were beamed to us from Antartica, not above Alaska. 20 minutes would be a long time to play instruments in those severely cold conditions.

Live from Antarctica, the coolest band on earth
Nunatak, the house band at a research station on the frozen continent, will play 'Live Earth.' Outside. In fingerless gloves.

Saturday's series of "Live Earth" concerts features a marquee-bursting array of the music industry's megastars, but perhaps its most impressive headliner is a band that doesn't even have a recording contract. That group, Nunatak, will be performing from Antarctica, with a stage audience about the same size as Kanye West's entourage. And when all is said and done with Live Earth, the band's members will go back to their desks, computers, and ice-diving equipment for another day at the South Pole.
Nunatak's five members are scientists stationed at the Rothera Research Station, which is run by the British Antarctic Survey. They are an ad hoc "house band" who, at Al Gore's request, are frantically rehearsing for a live webcast for the July 7 show.
"There is quite a tradition of forming bands at Rothera," say band members Alison Massey and Rob Webster, via e-mail. Massey, the saxophonist, is a marine biologist who saws holes in antarctic ice so she can dive in the dark polar waters, even as her Live Earth compatriots in Hamburg and New York don bikinis and board shorts.
For the Live Earth show, which includes eight other concerts around the world, Nunatak will play at least part of its set outside – in fingerless gloves, with temperatures plummeting to 14 degrees Fahrenheit. No pressure, right?
The group's participation allows the Live Earth organizers to achieve a lofty goal: To stage concerts on every continent.
"We had envisioned Live Earth to be a seven-continent music event from the very beginning," says festival spokesman Matthew diGirolamo. "When we shared our plans with Al Gore's office, they connected us to [Nunatak.]"

One that I visited many times in 16 years of log truckin'.:coolgleamA:
Micheal Savage opens his show and ad breaks with Metallica. "Well, listen up!" I keep forgetting the name of his theme song with those words. What does IMO mean? Madonna needs to run for president so there would be two women to choose from.
Thanks!

One more thing Mcnowhere. If Al Gore does not curse in public. I wonder why his rock n roll constituants would curse on Live Eight. Rusty Humphries calls the shows Lie Eight!:32:
The BBC has a news piece on Coast's Hot Stories. About the sun not causing OUR bad air day and China's greenhouse gas problem. Nutters to the BBC story and the BBC!

Think global with crossed fingers while we familes of four pay n pay n pay! Just wait for next year's Live Eight. They will have the windmills going overtime to make electricity for the instruments, mics n speakers, television satellite link trucks, and the stadium lighting. About half way thru at Madonna's shin dig the wind will die down and the show will have to be plugged in to reality.
Can you tell I hauled lowly coal for 12.5 years? Do we really need all these night lights in big buildings and huge spot lights on buildings? Purple colored lights on bridges?
Save a logger. Eat an owl.

JULY 17--If you're looking to book Al Gore for a 75-minute "Environmental Multimedia Lecture," the former vice president will cost you $100,000, plus travel, hotel, security, and per diem expenses. Gore's standard speaker's contract, a copy of which you'll find below, also stipulates that the Democrat's ground transportation be "a sedan, NOT an SUV." Additionally, Gore requests that speech sponsors make every effort to use a hybrid vehicle for his transport. The Gore contract, which is more restrained than the one used by Rudolph Giuliani, stipulates that no press be permitted at the event and that the Democrat receive approval over the distribution of photographs from the appearance. Gore's contract for a May 21 appearance at the University of California, San Diego was released by the school. Though the contract seeks "absolute confidentiality" when it comes to the deal's terms, since UCSD is a public university, the California Public Records Act requires that the document be released upon request. The way I look at it he's supposed to be hell-bent on a sincere cause, he comes from a very wealthy family, his home alone reflects that he isn't living in squalor. But $100,000 plus all his expenses, and they've got him for four hours, $25,000 per hour, which includes a 75 minute lecture, sorry but I'd say that's more Enterprising for a cause than Crusading for a cause. I understand where your coming from and I respect that, but I find it hard to respect Gore's motivation for the big buck on an issue that's very emotional to many on this Planet and one he spearheaded.
