This is the day... January 7th.

Movies have a great way of pushing subjects into the public consciousness.

I've been watching the trailers and hearing the radio ads for White Noise with anticipation; if the movie goes over well the concept of EVP/ITC is going to enter the public consciousness and the mass mainstream media will surely jump on it. Already, I've observed, the History Channel has, in subject matter, been becoming more and more like Coast to Coast AM every month. This will certainly push other outlets into covering more of the supernatural, a very welcome change in a lot of ways.

We can look forward to a couple of things: With so many people thinking of communication between us and other planes of existence and with so many people inspired to try it, communication can only become easier! There will surely be new equipment, new computer programs and more finely-tuned methods that will assist us. Also, the entities speaking to us will become clearer; with so much "mind power" being sent them, their energy levels will be given a sharp boost. Many have observed that the "veil" has for years been becoming thinner and one of my predictions for this year was indeed that encounters with ghosts, spirits and extra-dimensional entities will increase as in no previous year. But also, with so much attention focused on EVP/ITC, the hoaxers and scammers, the charlatans and fast-buck artists will jump on the bandwagon and clutter up the airwaves and Internet with all manner of phony stuff. Caveat emptor.

I am going to run directly to the cinema after work -- I've been planning for months to be the first on my block to see White Noise and I may well sit through two screen times if the opening matinees don't sell out and keep me from doing so. I'll report back on Monday (will do so over the weekend if I have the chance). I hope many of you all will report in, too -- it's a film that certainly should be discussed here and I look forward to swapping opinions and observations.

I am also looking forward to this movie as I have much interest in the subject.I do believe in this, but still question as to what is actually is.

I think we need to start a thread on the whole subject of EVP'S and discuss it further.

I might also have to have a look at it myself.

The local radio movie critic slammed this movie pretty hard.
He said it had much potential but fell short.
Good thing this critic has a track record about as good as <insert favorite/worst medium/RV`er here>

Who listens to critics anyway? I've seen many a movie that the critics liked that just didn't work for me. I've also seen some great movies that the critics didn't like. Besides, truthfully do you ever see Roger Ebert staying up late and listening to Art?

So did anyone go see this movie yet?
No critics on IW willing to offer up a review?
If I could find the time Id like to see it.

"White Noise" was a very Hollywoodized version of the ITC experience. Who has seen it yet? Raise your hands! While not wishing to spoil it for anyone who wants to see it and hasn't, I would like to discuss what I saw. But rather than risk spoilage for anyone, I'm going to wait until interested parties have seen it to post much detail; I can't really talk about the specifics of the EVP/ITC situations portrayed in the film without revealing, possibly, too much plottage, and that's never any fun! So do let me know when you've seen it and we can compare notes!

So I'll say only this for now: I wish the makers of the film had talked more extensively to the GIS (or, rather, had listened more closely to them...) and, perhaps, even brought them in as technical consultants. Anyone familiar with real EVP investigation will probably laugh at the way it's depicted here. There are some HUGE holes in the plot. And of the end, the resolution of the story, I'll say only that it seems they ran VERY short on inspiration! While it's a fairly servicable chunk o' cinema, it has a problem living up to the pre-release hype. And doesn't give EVP an entirely accurate portrayal. But at least it's getting people talking about EVP and bringing it to the dinner table, as it were. It's piqued some previously indifferent people's interest in the phenomenon and that alone is a good, good thing. So what we need now is a documentary on the GIS and the AAEVP that the people made curious by the film can refer to for an honest and fair real-time EVP experience!

The critics have never either inspired me to see a film that I hadn't already planned to or kept me away from another that I had. In fact, I disagree with the buggers most of the time! Most of the widely-distributed critic columns exist only because the companies that OWN the studios want them to exist; follow the money and you'll see who, in essence, makes their paychecks happen. Ebert & co. are part of the machine so their opinion means nothing to me.

I saw the movie last night with my fiance. I'll say that is was good--held my interest and such but it was not great. In fact, when I thought about it afterwards, they paint EVP as a terrible thing to get involved in---even if you know what you are doing---it might have raised interest, but I'm afraid it has scared off as much potential interest in the subject as it gains....that's just my feelings. Happy to discuss in more detail over PM with others who have seen it so as to not ruin any plot twists and turns for those who would like to see it but haven't made it yet.

I saw the movie Saturday evening and I thought it was a good movie. Maybe my opinion is based on the fact that I'm very much interested in EVP's and all things paranormal. Although I've never tried capturing any EVP's they still fascinate me. I though Michael Keaton did a great job in the film. Everyone should go see the film and judge for themselves.

Some notes on "White Noise" and the research that went into it:

http://imaginativeworlds.com/forum/showthread.php3?t=549

Personally, .. I think the first hour, the characters (still alive), and their interests & motivations would make a good premise for an on-going TV series.

Kind of a cross between "Highway to Heaven", "Touched by an Angel", and "Kolchek: the Night Stalker" with a touch of "The X-Files" thrown in.

A properly developed "White Noise" TV series would have the potential to go much further than the movie did in it's second hour.

JMHO.

A TV series would be very interesting as well as bringing EVP's further into the mainstream.

The movie "White Noise" is now out on DVD. I rented it and saw there are also several special feature documentaries with interviews with some of the EVP experts that have appeared on C2CAM in the past.
