Man apologizes for killing hotel's duck
Posted : Thu, 17 Jan 2008 04:37:05 GMT

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 16 A man who pleaded guilty Tuesday to ripping the head off a duck in the lobby of a St. Paul, Minn., hotel is not a horrible person, his attorney said.

"He's really a nice young man, he's humble, he's hard-working, he was a good student and worked hard to get the job he did," said attorney Michael Colich. "Nobody's been willing to look at what good things he's done in his life and what good things he'll do in his life."

At the time of the crime, Scott Clark was an auditor with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He has since been terminated.

While pleading guilty to felony animal cruelty, Clark told Ramsey County District Judge Margaret Marrinan he was "extremely sorry" and had never hurt an animal before.

Marrinan said it appeared Clark, 26, had "a substantial amount to drink" before the incident. He will be sentenced next month, the newspaper reported.

Although Colich and the prosecution agreed on a sentence -- no more than 45 days in jail, two years of probation, 40 hours of community service, a $500 fine, restitution and no pet ownership for two years -- the judge will decide.

Well, on one hand alcohol can cause humans to do the most stupidest things that they otherwise wouldn't have, and keep in mind this is not the first time that one of you primates have murdered a bird . . . but on the other hand he did voluntarily poison himself with that industrial solvent and medical antiseptic, and if he wasn't trying to eat a duck he probably would have been elsewhere shoving cow or pig or chicken in his face. I say hang him at sunrise (make sure his head comes off too), but lets waterboard him first to find out why he has such murderous disrespect for other life forms. Maybe he would like to play What Goes Around Comes Around this year. Ar har har har ...Dang, where are the Borg when you need them. Oh wait, drats, I forgot to switch on the homing beacon. Stupid me. CLICK! There, it won't be much longer now. :RotCol:

Suuuuuuure. And a turd in a punchbowl is just a garnish. Quit excusing the act, and trying to make him the victim.

Lawyers like that prove that lawyer jokes are justified.

I'm wondering where Alice Cooper was the whole time. He would have been a great character witness in this case. :D

Why do whackos seem to be so newsworthy? It sure has been a long time since the media and I shared the same priorities.

Alcohol has a way of allowing our true self to come out. Sounds like a very angry man. What was a duck doing in a hotel lobby in the first place? Floating in a pond or something.

There are a few hotels that have indoor ponds for ambiance.

The one that strikes me as the most unique is the hotel in Memphis that has the "march of the ducks" as they are paraded out to the pond at 4PM.

I could ask what the hell is a hotel doing there where a duck pond use to be? Seems like flesh and blood has a way of allowing a vampire to reveal their true self to come out too. Well, the lesson to remember here is don't give a carnivore alcohol when there are live creatures roaming about.
