Looks like the storm down by Galvaston and Houston (TX) is feeding in some energy into the primary cell, and that will start to track up to the N.E.

Delphine should see some heavy rain in the next day or so, and then it's projected to move up through Kentucky with another ice event and snow by noon on Friday in Ohio.

And we have a big kids music show on Saturday. OMG.

    Major snowstorm aims at mid-Atlantic
Emergency responders warn residents should be prepared to 'shelter in place'
    BY KATE SAAVEDRA | BALTIMORE | February 4, 2010

Long lines formed in supermarkets and home improvement centers Thursday in the mid-Atlantic states as residents attempted to stock-up as forecasters predicted a major snowstorm would hit the region Friday and Saturday.

Some schools in the region were taking no chances Thursday night. The District of Columbia schools said they would be open Friday morning but were already announcing an early dismissal at noon Friday.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch – a possibility of winter storm conditions within the next two days - extending from western Indiana to the east coast and south through North Carolina. A Winter Storm Warning – indicating severe winter conditions within 24 hours - was in effect for western North Carolina, northern and western Virginia, eastern West Virginia and Central Maryland.

The slow-moving storm moved across Mexico, dumping rain and snow over Texas and Oklahoma and is predicted to move east and north into the mid-Atlantic region by Friday.

As much as two feet of snow could fall in Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and parts of northern and western Virginia by Saturday evening, with near-blizzard conditions predicted overnight Friday. Philadelphia is expected to get as much as a foot of snow. The storm is expected to begin by midday Friday, with the heaviest snowfall overnight Friday, and lasting through Saturday night.

Abundant precipitation and high winds could cause power outages and dangerous road conditions. Motorists in severe weather areas are advised that travel will likely be difficult throughout the weekend and to avoid the roads Friday night.

Those in affected areas are advised to stay indoors during the storm. According to the FEMA website, residents should prepare for the winter storm by storing adequate amounts of food and heating fuel, in case of isolation and power outages.

Delphine was running around New Orleans and needed a boat on some streets. My car sits very low, but I usually know the areas to avoid...the pumps were running hot, I'll bet. Heading back to Mississippi this morning, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway (almost 24 miles long) was on restriction--no motorcycles, trucks carrying glass, etc. Sometimes, there can be a strong cross wind that blows you around a bit.

If all that rain turns to ice and snow, it will be a blast, indeed. I hope your music show went off alright, VO.

The Drudge Report says the D.C. area is predicted to get 30" to match the largest storm on record.

It's a good weekend to stay inside and watch a football game, if there happens to be one on...

There's a possibility Washington, DC could see up to 30" of snow! This is a huge storm on the east coast - again!

We've to good provisions, and can eat well for about 30 days. 37 days of fuel for the generator. So I'm all set. The hard part will be shoveling out from in front of the garage door. I don't want to open the door and have the mound fall in.

The city just announced that we're on a level 2 snow emergency, meaning normal travel is prohibited unless it's an emergency.

One thing I'm concerned about is how to get my son home. He had a show to do at one of the theaters last night, and he was only able to get as far as a friends house and spent the night there. He called this morning and his car can't get out of the drive, so I'll have to figure something out.

I guess this is why they call it "winter". Just have to deal with it.

We're North of Dc along the Blue Ridge.
There's about 30" drifting around the yard. So far, it's been more of a big snow, than a blizzard, but I think it's turning that way.

We had lots of customers at the bird feeders this morning, but the wind has picked up and they seem to have left to find shelter. All night the snow was kind of "vertical", and now it's more horizontal with the wind blowing it in. The worst will be for people out on the highways when it gets like a white fog!

Right now the power is staying on (and the Internet, yay!) so it's not so bad.

If the power goes off, and it's below freezing, don't forget to shut the water off and try to drain the pipes by opening all the faucets. A lot of people forget about that and end up with pipes that might be along outside wall freezing and cracking. And take it easy with the snow shoveling (or just ignore it if it appears it may all melt before you have to go out for supplies again, ha).

Warm wishes to all who are snowed in...I remember. Good thinking on the provisions, VO. I recommend a New Orleans Milk PUNCH...emphasis on the "punch" and a warm fire. Your son is probably safe and warm and having the time of his life.

Can anyone get out with the sleds?

It's simply damp, cold (46 F) and dreary here in Miss-ssippi. Not a typical winter, I'm told.
