U. of M. Football Tailgate Franks
This is actually a misstatement. They are not franks, (although they could be), but Polish Sausage. Take a foot long Polish Sausage, cut it in half, then cut down the center.
Make up the following;
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 large onion, minced
- 1/3 cup vinegar
- ½ cup sugar
- 5 ounces tomato puree
- 4 tsp. chili powder
- 2 tsp. salt
- 2 tsp. celery seed
- 1 tsp. black pepper
Do not brown the beef. Combine all in a saucepan and simmer for 2 hours.
At about an hour and a half, grill or pan fry at a low temperature the sausage. When cooked, place in a bun, spread the sauce over the sausage along with any condiment you want.
