Wishing all of our American members a great and happy 4th Holiday!
Do unto Others as you would have them do unto you
May we one day re-capture the Spirit of '76.
For if it profit, none dare call it Treason!
Enjoy the day everyone!
And well said Squid!!![]()
Happy 4th, everyone!
Some observations ---- people were in a great mood at work on Friday anticipating the holiday weekend. Everyone I know had plans for get togethers with friends or families, with lots of cooking planned. I hung out with my boyfriend - we listened to music and made cheeseburgers.
At this moment there are firecrackers going off outside, and people walking down to the beach to see the big fireworks show over the Queen Mary. Everyone I have talked to this weekend said "Happy 4th of July" and were in a good mood.
Yes, it is easy to get so gloom and doom these days, and for good reasons. But I know there are other countries where daily life is much, much harder. Yes, we have problems here, and no it isn't perfect - far from it. But I feel lucky to be an American, especially at this point in our very interesting history.
Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans.
Hope our neighbours to the south enjoyed the celebrations. Digressing a bit, I remember the bi-centennial year quite well all those years ago as it was put in the public consciousness up here throughout the year. I was 14 at the time and thought it was all pretty cool to have a year long celebration like that.
Enjoy!!
I remember the bi-centennial celebration too.... Hey! I got to play Betsy Ross in the school play that year!! I was 10! I remember it well - everyone was celebrating for the whole year, it felt really wonderful. Thanks for reminding me of that Dark Skies!
I had quite a special 4th of July this year. The little town of Independence puts on a spectacular fireworks display each year, and even though I've lived in this area for over thirty years, I'd never been to see it mainly because of the massive number of people who gather from near and far to participate in the festivities, and I don't 'do' large crowds well at all. This year, a friend who owns a restaurant on a bluff overlooking the river where the fireworks would be decided to close down early, and he invited a few people to come and sit on the restaurant patio to watch the display. It was a wonderful evening in more than one way. I managed to get a few shots of the fireworks...

What a great night, Judee! Looks like you had a front row seat for a wonderful show! Glad you had a good time![]()
Thank you for reminding us we do still things for which to be grateful. We just don't want to lose them.
