    Sums up everything for me...

I am a one way motorway
I’m the one that drives away
    Then follows you back home
I am a street light shining
I’m a wild light blinding bright
    Burning off alone

It’s times like these you learn to live again
It’s times like these you give and give again
It’s times like these you learn to love again
It’s times like these time and time again

I am a new day rising
    I’m a brand new sky
To hang the stars upon tonight
    I am a little divided
Do I stay or run away
    And leave it all behind?

It’s times like these you learn to live again
It’s times like these you give and give again
It’s times like these you learn to love again
It’s times like these time and time again

    Here's another one...

Anybody else here familiar with Guided By Voices?

Here's a song from their "Isolation Drills" CD that I've always related to.

    Guided By Voices
    "Twilight Campfighter"

    (copyright 2002 by Robert Pollard)

    Twilight campfighter
You build your fires into an open wound
You want us to feel better
    On these darker trails
    With light revealing holy grails
    To hike through dangerous weather
    You need twilight eyes

Sunspot solider, you come from another day
    Accept no pay
You want us to feel better
    All for longing causes
    Racing minds and lengthy pauses
All who must soon shed their veils
    And wipe their eyes

As we vegetate and wait around for brighter days
And can dance contented to the sound of money
Could I have seen a sight
Much greater than your twilight eyes
That penetrate your silent lives (their silent lies)

    Twilight campfighter
    We do congratulate
    It's not too late
To make us all feel better
    Under darker skies
    With your twilight eyes

It's the end of the world as we know it - REM

That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane -
Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn -
world serves its own needs, don't misserve your own needs. Feed it up a knock,
speed, grunt no, strength no. Ladder structure clatter with fear of height,
down height. Wire in a fire, represent the seven games in a government for
hire and a combat site. Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the furies
breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trump, tethered
crop. Look at that low plane! Fine then. Uh oh, overflow, population,
common group, but it'll do. Save yourself, serve yourself. World serves its
own needs, listen to your heart bleed. Tell me with the rapture and the
reverent in the right - right. You vitriolic, patriotic, slam, fight, bright
    light, feeling pretty psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Six o'clock - TV hour. Don't get caught in foreign tower. Slash and burn,
return, listen to yourself churn. Lock him in uniform and book burning,
blood letting. Every motive escalate. Automotive incinerate. Light a candle,
light a motive. Step down, step down. Watch a heel crush, crush. Uh oh,
this means no fear - cavalier. Renegade and steer clear! A tournament,
a tournament, a tournament of lies. Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives
    and I decline.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

The other night I tripped a nice continental drift divide. Mount St. Edelite.
Leonard Bernstein. Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Lester Bangs.
Birthday party, cheesecake, jelly bean, boom! You symbiotic, patriotic,
    slam, but neck, right? Right.

It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine...fine...

The song is part of a story that spins out in selected songs over the course of many BÖC albums; a story of one known, alternately, as Imaginos or Desdinova. Imaginos/Desdinova is a "modified" human with a soul of extraterrestrial origin. He serves ETs known as Les Invisibles and, throughout the span of modern history (15th - 21st century), in various guises helps shape world events. "Astronomy" is the song in which he first came to accept his extraterrestrial origin and mission.

Being a star baby myself, I quite relate.

    Wow, I never knew that.

So is ETI related to this story, seems like it?

    E.T.I.

I hear the music, daylight disc
Three men in black said, "Don't report this"
"Ascension," and that's all they said
    Sickness now, the hour's dread

    All praise
He's found the awful truth, Balthazar
    He's found the saucer news

I'm in fairy rings and tower beds
"Don't report this," three men said
Books by the blameless and by the dead
King in yellow, queen in red

    All praise
He's found the awful truth, Balthazar
    He's found the saucer news

Dead leaves always give up motion
I no longer feel the motion
Where prophecy fails, the falling motion
"Don't report this, agents of fortune"

    All praise
He's found the awful truth, Balthazar
    He's found the saucer news

One of my fav BOC songs among many. I saw them on the Imaginos tour in a small theatre for the first time and they blew me away

ETI is definitely one of the related songs according to former BÖC drummer Albert Bouchard who, for the BÖC FAQ, compiled a list of them. He and Sandy Pearlman actually created the concept together. The Imaginos album is kind of a condensation of this incredibly involved tale.

    The Kids Are Alright

I don't mind all the guys dancing with my girl
That's fine, I know them all pretty well
And I know sometimes I must get out in the light
Better leave her behind where the kids are alright...
    The kids are alright...

Sometimes, I know I gotta get away
Bells chime, I know I gotta get away
And I know if I don't, I'll go out of my mind
Better leave her behind where the kids are alright...
    The kids are alright...

I know if I go things would be a lot better for her
I had this plan but her folks wouldn't let her
    I don't mind, I feel I gotta get away
Bells chime, I know I gotta get away
And I know if I don't I'll go out of my fuckin' mind
Better leave her behind where the kids are alright...
    The kids are alright... (3x)

Songs Theat Reflect Your Mood or Thoughts

    Here's a great one.
I'm sending it out to all you lurkers out there.

    Join Together!
Lyrics and Music by Pete Townshend

When you hear this sound a-comin'
    Hear the drummers drumming
I want you to join together with the band
We don't move in any 'ticular directions
And we don't make no collections
I want you to join together with the band

Do you really think I care
What you eat or what you wear
I want you to join together with the band
There's a million ways to laugh
    And everyone's a path
Come on and join together with the band

    Everybody join together
I want you to join together
A-come on and join together with the band

We need you to join together
    Come on and join together
Come on, join together with the band

    You don't have to play
If you can't follow, lead the way!
I want you to join together with the band

We don't know where we're going
But the season's ripe for knowing
I want you to you join together with the band

It's the singer not the song
That makes the music move along
I want you to join together with the band
This is the biggest band you'll find
It's as deep as it is wide
Come on and join together with the band

    Hey, hey, hey, join together
Everybody come on, come on, and join
    Join together with the band
We need you to join together
    Everybody come on
    Hey, hey hey
    Join together with the band.

    The sun'll come out
    Tomorrow
    Bet your bottom dollar
    That tomorrow
    There'll be sun!

    Just thinkin' about
    Tomorrow
    Clears away the cobwebs,
    And the sorrow
    'Til there's none!

    When I'm stuck a day
    That's gray,
    And lonely,
I just stick out my chin
    And Grin,
    And Say,
    Oh!

    The sun'll come out
    Tomorrow
    So ya gotta hang on
    'Til tomorrow
    Come what may
    Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
    I love ya Tomorrow!
    You're always
    A day
    A way!

When The Children Cry ~ White Lion

Little child dry your crying eyes
How can I explain the fear you feel inside
Cause you were born into this evil world
Where man is killing man and no one knows just why
What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again

    CHORUS
When the children cry let them know we tried
Cause when the children sing then the new world begins

Little child you must show the way
To a better day for all the young
Cause you were born for all the world to see
That we all can live with love and peace
No more presidents and all the wars will end
    One united world under God

    CHORUS

What have we become just look what we have done
All that we destroyed you must build again
No more presidents and all the wars will end
    One united world under God

When the children cry let them know we tried
When the children fight let them know it ain't right
When the children pray let them know the way
Cause when the children sing then the new world begins

I have been in an upbeat mood lately. This is one of my favorite songs.

    Love Reign O'er Me

    The Who
    Quadrophenia

    Only love
    Can make it rain
The way the beach is kissed by the sea.
    Only love
    Can make it rain
    Like the sweat of lovers'
    Laying in the fields.

    Love, Reign o'er me.
Love, Reign o'er me, rain on me.

    Only love
    Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky.
    Only love
    Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high.

    Love Reign O'er me.

On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool cool rain.
The nights are hot and black as ink
    I can't sleep and I lay and I think
Oh God, I need a drink of cool cool rain.
