What happens to ghosts when a house burns down?

If a house is haunted by ghosts, and it burns down, what happens to the ghosts? I've never heard of homeless ghosts before.

    Welcome to IW Phil,

Summer of 2003 I was in St.Louis at my dad's house,,,,we were awoke by a huge fire directly across the street. It was a house burning down, the heat that building gave off was immense,,,and it truly is a site to behold.
As it turned out I went to bed and experienced an EXTREMELY powerfull visitation of sorts. Read (IS Old Hag Syndrome Caused by Ghosts, I think so) a thread here at IW.
I had a horrible nightmare, as I awoke, I found a powerfull cruel ghost in my room, it was my feeling that it had came from across the street, from the burned down house.
I managed to make myself an undesirable target.
The next morning, my dad, who never has nightmares reported the worst nightmares he has ever had in his life.
I felt that when said entitiy left me, it went to the next nearests person.
    So,,,,there you go.

Welcome to IW Phillip. Good first post too by the way!

I would agree with Marco in that ghosts who have lost their 'haunting grounds' would either move on from this plain, or find the most convenient and closest place to continue their confused lurking.

I'd imagine it would really mess with their ghostly spirit, creating a new paradigm for em.

I think it is not all the same reaction by spirits. Sometimes I think it is what you all say above, but sometimes I think they stick in the same area anyways.

I wonder if the house is always burned down in their pardigm? Or if it still exists in their "world"?

I also wonder - Does it matter if the building is destroyed AFTER they are ghosts or if they die in an event where the building is destroyed at the same time they are?

The buiidings where a bunch of people died in 9/11 were destroyed, but I am absolutely sure that the new buildings that go up there will be haunted by some of the victims.

I have more quesstions than answers about this scenario.

What a great question! BTW I've heard of ghosts being seen in the shadows of cities. I could have sworn I've heard testimonies of ghosts walking down the streets of NYC and London. So if a ghost's home burned down, s/he could be lurking in the streets nearby.

The idea of a haunted homeless shelter sounds really, really scary. Calling Stephen King..............

And I wonder about those who die in ships at sea? Do ghosts haunt the bottom of the oceans and Great Lakes? Is there essence on phantom ships above where they went down?

i once read a story, but i cant remember the name of it.....in the story the main character went into the astral plane...and there he encountered people and something i have never thought about...amputated limbs...floating arms/legs..i remember he had to brush them away...but it makes me wonder...do they go someplace to await the rest of the body...?

I heard a theory once that the "phantom pain" that amputees feel is that they are still feeling their limb on the astral plane.
