NEW YORK — The federal government has sued Deutsche Bank, alleging it committed mortgage fraud by repeatedly lying so that it could join a government program that insured mortgages.

Deutsche Bank said in a statement that it will fight the lawsuit, calling the allegations "unreasonable and unfair."

The Manhattan lawsuit seeks to recover some of the hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance claims that the government has had to pay when homeowners defaulted on their mortgages. The lawsuit also asks for punitive damages.

According to the lawsuit, Deutsche Bank profited from the resale of the government-insured mortgages.

The government says Deutsche Bank recklessly selected mortgages that violated the rules of the program. It says the bank ignored whether borrowers could afford their mortgage payments.

I'm still adding to the list ... Fox news has just posted "Mexico's PEMEX is suing 9 US OIL Companies for stealing
    http://www.foxnews.com/us/2011/06/02...in-oil-thefts/

Over at the Houston Chronicle they list the companies

The suit said all the stolen oil ends up in the United States, "and particularly in Texas and neighboring states."

Two Texas oil company executives were convicted in 2010 of selling stolen Mexican oil products. They are not included in the suit.

Six of the companies sued are based in Texas: Big Star Gathering Ltd., F&M Transportation, Western Refining Co., Joplin Energy, Superior Crude Gathering and Plains All-American.

The other three companies are TransMontaigne Partners of Denver, SemCrude of Oklahoma City and Saint James Oil of Sandy, Utah.

Two U.S. oil company executives, James Jensen of Sandy, Utah, and Jeff Kirby of Corpus Christi, are also named in the suit.

Investors lost 1.5 billion due to this fraud but only half of the 200 million will go to compensate investors. I wonder if any bailout money trickled down to Morgan Keegan...
