    Amazing Uses For Tang

You have come across that container of Tang that has been hiding in the back of your pantry. You could always follow the instructions on the package and just add some water, but that sounds very uninspired when you consider the many things that you could do with that Tang.

    Cleaning Your Dishwasher

Tang has high levels of citric acid, which makes it bad for your tooth enamel but good for cleaning your dishwasher. When the dishwasher is empty, fill the detergent slot with a two tablespoons of Tang and run the dishwasher as you normally would. Water contains minerals that build up in the machine and need to be cleared out periodically to ensure that they do not gunk up the heating element. Tang does an exceptional job of eliminating those mucky minerals, according to Joey Green's "Wacky Uses for Brand Name Products."
    Creamsicle Drink

If you used to buy Creamsicles from the ice cream man on hot sunny days, this drink will remind you of the carefree summers of your youth. In a clean jar with a matching lid, mix one part Tang, one part powdered milk, and two parts instant vanilla pudding. Stir thoroughly and then put two heaping tablespoons of the mix into a drinking glass. Fill the glass with cold water and sip slowly as you reflect on the good old days.
    Tang Pie

Tang Pie has the same nostalgic flavors of the Creamsicle Drink, but makes a better showing when you serve dessert to your dinner guests. Mix 3/4 cup Tang, 16 ounces sour cream, 8 ounces Cool Whip, and 1 can of sweetened condensed milk in a large mixing bowl. Pour the contents of the bowl into 2 graham cracker pie crusts. Cover the pies with plastic wrap and put them in the refrigerator. Chill the pies for two hours before you serve them.
    Russian Tea

Put 1/2 cup instant tea powder, 2 cups Tang, 3 ounces instant lemonade mix, 3/4 cup white sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves in a large bowl. Stir the mixture thoroughly and pour it into a large jar with a lid. Keep the jar of Russian Tea Mix in your pantry until you crave a hot drink. Then just add 2 or 3 teaspoons of the mixture to a mug full of boiling water.
    Tang Cocktails

Tang is surprisingly versatile and pairs well with tequila, rum, vodka or wildberry schnapps. This orange drink mix is a critical component of every well-stocked bar.

Tang pie, huh? The joke writes it's self.

Using Tang to clean the dishwasher is quite a useful trick to know. Thanks for sharing.

After reading the first use for Tang, I would say it should be banned by the FDA for being internally harmful to humans.

After reviewing the list of ingredients, I'll stick to using it as a cleaning agent. Sugars are the number one ingredient, but it's the yellow 5 and yellow 6 coloring agents that kill it for me.

Here is a list of the ingredients in the Tang Orange Drink mix:

    SUGAR
    FRUCTOSE
    CITRIC ACID (PROVIDES TARTNESS)
    HO2CCH2C(OH)(CO2H)CH2CO2H
    CALCIUM PHOSPHATE (PREVENTS CAKING)
    POTASSIUM CITRATE (CONTROLS ACIDITY)
    ORANGE JUICE SOLIDS
    ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C)
    NATURAL FLAVOR
    Natural flavor
    ARTIFICIAL COLOR
XANTHAN AND CELLULOSE GUMS (FOR BODY)
    YELLOW 5
    YELLOW 6
    ALPHA TOCOPHEROL ACETATE (VITAMIN E)
    NIACINAMIDE
    ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR
    VITAMIN A PALMITATE
    VITAMIN B6
    RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2)
    BHA

Here's a bit more information to make it more interesting:
"Tang is a sugary, orange-flavored, non-carbonated soft drink from the USA. The original orange flavored Tang was formulated by General Foods Corporation in 1957 and first marketed (in powdered form) in 1959. It was initially intended as a breakfast drink, but sales were poor until NASA began using it on Gemini flights in 1965, and that use was heavily advertised. Since that time, it has been associated with the U.S. manned spaceflight program."

And some people use Tang to clean their dishwashers! Weird! So Kraft Foods tells us:
"We have heard that some consumers have used TANG Drink Mix to clean their dishwashers. TANG does contain citric acid which can act as cleaning agent.

TANG Drink mix is intended to be a food product and Kraft Foods does not advocate its use for any other purpose."
"Happiness can only come from inside of you and is the result of your love. When you are aware that no one else can make you happy, and that happiness is the result of your love, this becomes the greatest mastery of the Toltecs: the Mastery of Love." ~~don Miguel Ruiz~~
