What's Growing in your Garden 2011?

Thought I'd start a thread so those who grow things or observe things growing this summer can share and put some photos or tales up.

    My favorite poppy so far...

First blooms on Brugmansia Goldenes Kornet. I have waited 4 years for this one to bloom. These just opened up today. Form is fantastic and the lemony powder scent is to die for. Cant' wait to see when she colors up in the next few days.

Awesome idea about this thread. I'll try to post some pics too Alpha. I seem to have a problem posting picture though. I've tried multiple times, and always get a 'upload failed' message. Stupid dial-up I guess!

    Your 2011 garden looks amazing!!

Judee, are you resizing your photos before you try uploading them? It may help on dial up. Use something like paint, select resize via pixel and set the first setting to 640, then save as.

Anyway, thanks...my garden still looks like nothing yet. I'm just getting everything I want placed and in the ground. Still more to do today.

Can't wait to see your photos and those from others too

    spanish moss & spring 6-'11 002.jpg

This is a new pink Clematis I planted this year. It's not only beautiful and a fast grower, but it has a lovely spicy/sweet smell. The bees love it.

Some Spanish moss on an old oak tree on my property. Robins use the moss in their nests. I end up with it all over my deck.

Spring blooms on Korean Ash tree.

Thanks for the tip Alpha. I re-sized a few photos to post, and it worked. It made the quality of the pictures lower, but at least I was able to post them!

Neil Sperry the garden go to guy here in texas says...its not going so great for growing stuff in texas this year

Garden Tip: You are NOT alone if your large-leafed, fast-growing shade trees are turning yellow. Odds are 98 percent that it's the internal, older leaves that are turning first. If so, odds are 99 percent that it's the hot, dry weather. The trees can't pull water through their systems fast enough to meet the demands. They shed leaves to cope. Soak them around their drip lines.

Garden Tip: You are NOT alone if your tomatoes are scorched looking from the ground up (spider mites), if they have quit setting fruit (temperatures too high for flowers to be pollinated), if fruit is turning brown on the bottoms (blossom-end rot: too dry between waterings), if fruit is splitting (sun, high temperatures), or if fruit is pecked or full of tomato fruit worms. Tough spring for tomatoes.

Garden Tip: You are NOT alone if some of your plants are struggling. Impatiens (stop flowering, leaves roll); geraniums (few and small flowers, leaves yellow); wax begonias (stop flowering, leaves singed) and others. These are all results of high temperatures (impatiens and geraniums) and excessive sunlight (begonias).

that spanish moss...its so tricksey it is...only grows on the north side of the tree, and the other north side of the tree...and wait...isnt that on the north side of the tree?...i still remember when i was about 4-5 years old and i figured out the old moss only grows on the north side of the tree lie..it was right about the time i discovered WWII wasnt all black and white, and earth quakes make your teeth fall out, with a little help from older brother sneaking up and shaking the couch to try to scare me...lost my first tooth that day...such child hood traumas...
