New Orleans Prepares For BCS Championship Weekend

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and other city officials Thursday discussed the city's preparations for the upcoming BCS National Championship weekend.

With an estimated 250,000 visitors expected, Landrieu said the city plans to flood the area around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome and the French Quarter with police officers.

"There will be 740 police officers around the Superdome and the French Quarter. Neighborhood districts will be fully staffed," Landrieu said.

"And I want to take a moment here to ask the people of New Orleans to show the tremendous hospitality that they know they can show not only to the Tiger fans (Geaux Tigers !!!!), which are in our backyard, but also to our friends from Alabama," the mayor said. Alabama ?????
