Airports Now Recording Private Conversations - CBSA

Well they say not yet, but do we believe them....and if this is in Ottawa, just imagine where else they are putting this in place!!!!

Ottawa airport wired with microphones as Border Services prepares to record travellers’ conversations

    THE OTTAWA CITIZENJune 16, 2012

OTTAWA — Sections of the Ottawa airport are now wired with microphones that can eavesdrop on travellers’ conversations.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is nearing completion of a $500,000 upgrade of old video cameras used to monitor its new “customs controlled areas,” including the primary inspection area for arriving international passengers.

As part of the work, the agency is introducing audio-monitoring equipment as well.

“It is important to note that even though audio technology is installed, no audio is recorded at this time. It will become functional at a later date,” CBSA spokesman Chris Kealey said in a written statement.

But whenever that occurs, the technology, “will record conversations,” the agency said in a separate statement in response to Citizen questions.

Orwell's world is here isn't it? They have successfully used 'fear' to turn us into hamsters in a cage. Our every move and word monitored closely.

Yup, privacy (and probably soon even your private thoughts) is no longer available. Constant surveillance is now the order of the day in all aspects of life. Even the world's best and my fave forum keeps track of what I read now.

What are they so fearful about? 99% of conversation is just small talk or complaints in airports.

Just "small talk".....Topper, I've been thinking about that a long time.

OK, I walk into the Airport, and this portion of my "Small Talk" with a friend is recorded: "...then I wrap him in burlap, put him in a bathtub, beat him with a chain..."

You don't think that "Small Talk" would get me pulled aside? Held for questioning?

A Gold Star on the forehead of anyone who can tell what I'm talking about?! Hint: it is something totally innocent.

You're going to have to enlighten me on this one Mary!

OK, youse guys. No more telling your cohorts in crime where you buried all the bodies and what you are going to blow up next! Do not even whisper!

(Do I have a volunteer to bake me a cake with a file in it?)

OK...I'll give... this is the complete conversation:

"I bought a beautiful reproduction of a 19th Century Secretary (a kind of small desk). I want it to have that distressed, antique look, so, I'll wrap him in burlap (to protect the surface and finish) put him a bath tub (so the flailing chain doesn't hit my shins) and beat it with a heavy-ish chain! When done, that new desk will have realistic dents, like a real antique!"

But, how long do you think I'll be in custody before the idiots being hired by TSA will believe my story?

Or how about these snippets: "...really blasted it with that shot..." "...oh that'll blow them away..." "...it was a bomb..." All of which are totally innocent remarks regarding sports, like Billiards, Basket Ball, Base Ball, etc.

How about a nice, rich Pound Cake with a file baked in side!

It was the word 'him' that threw me. 'Him' denotes a living person or animal, and I'm thinking to myself how can that be an innocent thing? If you had used the word 'it', I might have been able to guess.

These systems are everywhere, whether they tell you or not. Assume you are being recorded and analyzed at ALL times. They put in mics into our metro system last year, I noticed right away, but I always look at wires and new stuff on the walls trying to figure out what it is.
