Non-Techie Old Gal Needs Help, Please!

    Help! Please!

Project, I have screwed up royally. I posted a couple of "border"-type things and decided I did not want them on my post. (see: Thread: Kathleen Keating) I tried everything I could think of to get rid of them (not much, in my case!)

I ended up with the following. Luckily I can get IW on Internet Explorer, because this is now all that I can get of IW on Firefox. Can this be fixed?

As Pooh Bear said when he got stuck in the Honey Tree after he ate too much, "Oh help! Oh bother! I'm stuck!"

Here is what Firefox brings me now:

Oh, Pyrite. Thank you for understanding my predicament. I hope Project will be patient with me. cross fingers.jpg

hmm well, first thing to try is to delete your cache and cookies... http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/...les-fix-issues see if that does anything. If I understand you right, you only see a text page instead of the normal skin? Try also logging out and back in, try changing the theme then change it back... let me know.

Yes, it is only text. I did everthing you suggested and then some. No help. Thanks, anyhow. I really appreciated it. At least I can still get IW on IE. smilie - crying.gif

Dera, have you gone into 'tools' (when on firefox), then click 'content' when the tools box opens, and made sure that the 'load images automatically' box is checked?

pretty strange. When this sort of thing happens to me I delete firefox's configuration files and start with a clean profile, it is guaranteed to fix it. http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/...refox-profiles

This will delete all your preferences, bookmarks, everything.

I bet there is an easier solution, like maybe what Judee suggested, although how does that box get unticked... but yes, it sounds like something has turned off your ability to load images. It could be security software you are running, it could be windows choking, lots of possibilities.

Thanks, P. And Judee, yes, the "Image Box" is checked.

Oh gosh, I hate to delete everything like my bookmarks, etc.

Firefox works fine for another forum which is "Powered by vBulletin® Version 3.8.1" Why would one be OK and not the other?

I just plain old screwed it up. I think I'll go and take another nap--or maybe a swim. It is supposed to be 101° here today. I'm running high on frustration right now.

Dera, have you tried a "system restore"?

Often times, this will fix whatever is causing this.

Find a restore date immediately before you noticed this change in FF....it just may do the trick...lame if know but it works sometimes.

Unfortunately with complex stuff like this the reason can be very hard to track down. Changing skins does nothing?

If you want, go to http://checkip.dyndns.org/ and copy the IP address it tells you and PM it to me (don't post it here). That way I can check the logs and see if I can spot any problems.

I'm back in business - thank you all, Project and the others who tried to help.

This is gonna sound dumb, probably, but I am beyond caring if it does.

I have been running Firefox on Version 11. I downloaded Version 12 three times at their invitation (from the official Mozilla site I thought) and each time it came with something that was apparently hitching a free ride on the download--it was some kind of MP3 Tube tool bar that I didn't want and couldn't get rid of. I still had the "setup Version 11" icon on my desk top, so I reinstalled it and it worked OK. Then I got into trouble with the problem that I started all this with.

I tried everything everyone suggested, thank you one and all. Firefox had bugged me for a long time to download Version 12 so I tried that AGAIN (not knowing there is now a 13) but it wouldn't download. I finally got Version 13 up and running, but it has taken me several hours to get it back so that I have "file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, help, back arrow, refresh, etc. etc." Whew! It is very hard to live without tools and at least a back arrow!

I hope Firefox won't want me to "upgrade" again soon. I have had problems with every single upgrade that came along since I first heard of that browser. PAH!
