    2012 Hurricane Season

    Debby's Dilemma

It now looks likely we'll have the season's fourth named storm, "Debby", in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend. That much is high confidence right now.

As far as Debby's future path and intensity, the forecast is far from certain. Interests along the entire U.S. Gulf Coast should monitor closely the progress of this "future Debby."

    HEADS UP, GULF STATES!

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.

    Debby Update:

'Debby' to Develop; Take Aim on Gulf Coast

    By Brian Edwards, Meteorologist

    Jun 22, 2012; 6:15 PM ET

A system could spin up just about anywhere in the mass of clouds over the Caribbean and southern Gulf of Mexico. (Image taken the afternoon of June 22, 2012.)

AccuWeather.com meteorologists continue to monitor low pressure near the Yucatan which is expected to become "Debby" this weekend.

According to Expert Senior Meteorologist Dan Kottlowski, "There is a slight chance this feature could become a tropical depression as early as tonight. However, we feel this system will become better organized this weekend and should become Tropical Storm Debby later Saturday or on Sunday."

Interestingly enough, there has never been a fourth named storm in June. Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski has more information in this story.

More offshore oil workers in the Gulf of Mexico were being evacuated and oil production shut down on Saturday after a weather system was given a 90 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm this weekend.

"A tropical storm may be forming," the National Hurricane Center said in its afternoon advisory, adding that "tropical-storm force winds are already occurring in the eastern GulfofMexico."

"Tropical storm watches or warnings could be required for a portion of the northern GulfCoast later today," it added. "Heavy rains and localized flooding are possible across the Yucatan Peninsula (in Mexico), western Cuba and much of Florida over the next day or two."

One forecasting model has the slow-moving system heading west toward Texas by midweek, weather.com reported. A less reliable model has it swinging back east over Florida and then along the mid-Atlantic. A third model has it surging north into Louisiana-Mississippi.

As a precaution, many oil companies were evacuating rig workers and support personnel from offshore installations in the area.

About 8 percent of oil and natural gas production in the Gulf had been suspended, the U.S. government said Saturday.

Delphs, you have never found anything at all that even comes close to being as marvelous as your original av. I think it should somehow be permanent!

    DEBBY 11:00 am central

    Current Status

    Tropical Storm Debby
has moved very little since its formation in the eastern Gulf of Mexico late Saturday.
Locally heavy rain and possible flooding will impact portions of the eastern Gulf Coast and Florida into Monday. Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out in much of Florida.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for parts of the Louisiana, Alabama and Florida Gulf Coasts. Tropical-storm force winds (40 mph or higher) are possible there Sunday into early Monday. Power outages were reported on St. George Island, Fla. early Sunday morning from Debby's outer bands.

    Track Forecast Uncertain
Debby is forecast to drift only very slowly north through Sunday, then is expected to turn toward the northwest or west. That said, the track forecast remains VERY uncertain and we cannot rule out a track towards the east or northeast in the direction of Florida.

    (MORE: Debby forecast track scenarios)

Residents from the Florida Gulf Coast to Texas need to monitor closely the progress of Debby.
