What's Growing in your Garden 2012?

Well the growing season is upon us, so I thought I'd start a thread where we can share what we are growing in our gardens, containers or in our homes this summer.

Here are a couple of photos of this year's vegetable garden.

This is what it looked like in late May when it was first started:

Here is what it looks like today, almost 1 month later:

Click on the images for a larger photo.

I have several varieties of heirloom tomatoes in there: Beef Steak, Sicilian Saucer, Roma, Italian plum, grape....all plants which were germinated from last years seeds.

I also have 2 varieties of basil, oregano, dill, Italian parsley, rosemary, thyme, sage, chives, cucumbers, hot banana peppers, jalapeno peppers, red & green bell peppers growing this year. I have a salad mix growing in another container.

I hope to expand my garden again next year so I can add more.

I also have a lot of flowers....will add those later.

Looking forward to seeing what you all are growing this year!!

Well you can't see much, but it is nice and leafy and green

Mostly perennial flowers, but some cherry tomatoes, tons of herbs (including curry, which I had never seen live before), elephant garlic, asparagus...

Very nice P...I love the natural country garden look!!

I'd love to hear and see how you are growing your asparagus. Also where did you find a curry plant?

I have 2 batches of garlic growing here too...the scapes are almost ready to harvest now. I want to add some other garlic varieties to the one that I have.

Here's a pic of my poppy...one of my favorite perennials.

My asparagus is just going crazy in the back. Not harvestable this year I don't think, I need to divide it and TLC it more next season. The curry plant I found at our local plant source, had never seen one before, but wow you can tell it is curry form one whiff. It has little tiny yellow flowers.

I planted a curry herb a couple of years ago, and it smelled like a wonderful Indian Restaurant every time I passed it! It can get very pungent with good water and lots of sun.

Well, speaking of scent...years ago I grew orchids, indoors of course being up here in Alaska. There are countless different scents given off by countless different orchids. I had one that gave off the scent of fresh....chocolate!!! And somehow it sent the scent several feet away. Mr Ex and I would be in the living room, several feet away from orchid, when suddenly we would smell fresh, sweet chocolate Drove us nutz!

That sounds like an awesome orchid to have Mary! I tried orchids years ago, but wasn't successful at all. I could grow the plants, but they would never bloom. I don't think the lighting was right for them.

Does Brisby ever knock over any of the plants Alpha? Your yard is very beautiful!

Jungle is right!! I'd get lost walking through there

We have victory gardens at the farm now, quite a few actually with more plots being added next spring. The city rents them out for 40 bucks a plot. All the gardens have done great this year with a wide variety of edible goodness. Some of the carrots I've raided are huge!
