U.S. puts machine-guns on Great Lakes coast guard vessels

    CBC News

For the first time since 1817, U.S. Coast Guard vessels on the Great Lakes are being outfitted with weapons – machine-guns capable of firing 600 bullets a minute.

Until now, coast guard officers have been armed with handguns and rifles, but the vessels themselves haven't been equipped with weapons.

Ya patrol the Canadian border with machine guns while letting any Mexican who chooses to stroll through the other end. Makes lots of sense.

The only way that it makes sense to me is if I think of it as posturing for the benefit and optics of the Mexican Gov't. I have not as yet, EVER heard of hoards of people trying to get into the States from Canada, as they are from Mexico across the Rio Grande and desert.

I wouldn't like to hear of shots being fired on an innocent Canadian (or American, for that matter) pleasure cruiser filled with people vacationing, fishing and/or having a great time just because the person with a gun might have "thought" it was a good idea at the time. There have been too many people hurt with friendly fire lately and all it takes, it seems, is a gun and a major sense of entitlement.

In fact, the story had a picture of a soldier in camouflage on the water. That sort of sh*t is totally uncalled for. I don't want a war started on our soil for nothing - this is making me angrier by the minute..... I'd better stop.

Maybe it's part of preparing for a possible attack from terrorist.
That was my first thought when reading this.

yes they have so much reason to think there will be a terrorist attack... from the North... I bet it was all planned by an esqimault in his igloo.

Unfortunately I think they are there to pick off the people fleeing martial law in the US. They are to keep you in, not us out.

Project, I'm part of the "us" and very happy to be... While I'm happy to visit U.S., I'm relieved to get home. I've been overseas (Europe/India) and found life to be interesting there too, but there's no place like home. I know how lucky I am...

Dog and pony show, maybe. Jennifer, the terrorists are owned by the various alphabet agencies. Al Qaeda is a CIA setup and means "the base" which was shortened from "the database" of names of known Arab and Muslim CIA operatives/assets. I know you don't want to think that our own Guvmint has created and managed and manipulated Middle East terrorists, but ... them's the facts.

The US created the Taliban and then they removed them from power when it suited their needs. Why do you think we wanted to stop Russia from owning Afghanistan? We didn't want the Russian mob to own the drugs there! Don't think the CIA are running drugs? Okay.... Somebody give me the name of the California reporter who died recently ... the one who broke the LA-CIA drug running story, okay? It's all a big chess games, Jennifer!

So, I don't think giving the Coast Guard new boats and bigger guns has ANYTHING to do with stopping terrorists or drug runners! It's all about giving an arm of the Police State the means to tighten the noose around the sheeple's neck.

You may be right smade, but I can only think of how Roosevelt was accused of knowing all about and even having something to do with Pearl Harbor. And, there is the theories about how Kennedy was killed. it goes on and on. No one, not even you knows the truth, but you are within your rights to think what ever you want. As for me, I simply do not know for sure. So many theories are floated around, it makes me crazy. This is why I hate to discuss these things. I won't any more. I'm out of here.
