    Chinese Google Earth Mystery Plot

    the square there seems to be a scale representation of a much larger area, but rendered in seemingly perfect scale and detail.

    if you look at the red building you can see its shadow. None of the other buildings have a shadow.

    No, they do have shadows, but that one definitely has the biggest one for miles around.

    I must have missed this thread. Thanks for bumping it up, Doug, and welcome to IW.

    The longer I look at it, the more weirdness I see. A few miles to the right, there are "fields." If you shift in and out with the altitude, there are points when I'd swear I'm looking at a closeup of wood or brick walls rather than desert. In fact, if I didn't see the shadows, I'd say the whole thing is faked somehow.

    This is somewhere in the middle of the Gobi, isn't it? The sand does strange things, but the regularity (straightness) of most of the lines is remarkable. Especially in contrast to the so-called miniature mountain-scape.

    What we need is someone who's had some real training in viewing satellite photos to tell us what we're really looking at. I am baffled.
