Halloween has come and gone, but the wind is howling and a good story is always welcome. So many superstitions about whistling - it makes me wonder. And I feel this could be another motto for you, JoequinnbbTruth, as you always tell us, is never offensive." M. R. James
Did you read the story, bagbear, and if you did, what did you think of it? I loved the story. A first-class job, all the way, by a master of the genre.

Yes, it did strike a chord with me, since I tend to pick things up while walking. Also, to push buttons & such without really knowing what I'm doing. And then also, I always enjoy the recreation of a time and its special character. Any 'Colonel' in an English story seems to be a wikipedia of the past! And I'm still wondering about the inscription, though not sure if I really want to know??? bb
