    Picking a Tarot Deck

I've been thinking about getting a Tarot deck. Had one in high school and did a little dabbling. Does anyone know if there's anything specific to look for? Are the decks at say Barnes and Noble fine or do I need to find an occult shop to get a set?

I started out with a classic deck with classic figures. I also bought a Hindu Prayer shawl to wrap the deck in and keep them in a nice carved wooden box. Where you buy it is probably not important, but I would never buy a used or open deck without a cleansing act and/or smudging with some sage grass or similar thing.

Remember, the less people that handle the deck, the better. I also have a deck from Francine Hart based on Sacred Geometry. It has beautiful artwork as well.

I am no expert, just passing along what I know and have.

Well, the deck's symbols have to speak to you.
I like the AE Waite deck myself.

The others are pretty, but the symbolism in the that deck makes the most sense to me. The Thoth deck is pretty good too, but the symbolism doesn't go as deeply as I'd like it to. If you have good knowlege of the symbolism of the deck though, you might like it. It is fairly transparent.

Do be careful delving into such a confrontation with abstract symbols. I've discovered that a tarot deck can be a portal as much as anything else.

That's very interesting Hadriana, although what you write does not surprise me as I suppose any form of "divination" could we an invitation to open a portal of sorts.

Could you elaborate on what you experienced and specifically if there are any symbols you feel are more conducive to this type of manifest over others?

Do unto Others as you would have them do unto you
