GHOSTLY ESCAPADES – Part 1 of 2--Waco, KY
Do ghosts/spirits exist?
If you had asked me this question a year or so ago, I would probably have told you yes, but they’re uncommon.
Earlier this year I decided to delve into the study of paranormal investigation. It was my hope that the Jacody Ives series, although fiction, would incorporate real life experience. I wanted to be a hands-on writer. I traveled with a local group to several locations, learned the use of instruments and through research and continued outside studies learned to tell the difference between dust, condensation and spirit orbs. My former studies in metaphysics were useful as far as sensing an area, and arriving at my own conclusion as to whether any paranormal activity existed there.
I found myself becoming more and more interested in the scientific study of this phenomenon and recently joined a newly formed group called Twilight Paranormal Investigations and Research. My role in this group is basically as a researcher into the past as well as the present status of areas to be investigated, and lead investigator.
In late November I researched and set up our first investigation at a remote area in Waco, Kentucky. Having interviewed several residents I’d heard the tragic story of a young girl who had accidentally set the family trailer on fire and died of smoke inhalation. Her spirit supposedly haunted this building, along with two other male spirits. One a suspected former owner that was murdered on the property. The residents told stories of things moving, noises in the night, voices, strange and sudden drops in room temperature and machines operating without batteries or electricity. All fascinating—all at the moment unproven.
During my preliminary investigation I captured two orbs in upstairs rooms. These orbs were moving, and quite huge. Later review of the pictures shows a density to the orb that would be suspicious of being a spirit orb. Also during my preliminary investigation a toy was turned on and a box shook when no one was near it. I later attempted to trip the toy by movement and walking, stomping on the floor in an effort to make it come on—all without success. Creepy!
Room temperatures fluctuated on my trip through the building, going from extremely hot to extremely cold. We would no sooner enter a room than the temperature would start to drop—giving the impression that the ghosts were following us around. Spooky!
Having finished my preliminary we scheduled an investigation for the first weekend in December, planning an all night trip. We incorporated several scientific experiments into our plans, including mirror writing, movement of articles, toys and infrared sensors.
We monitored the room the little girl supposedly appeared the most, and attempted to speak with her. At one point we asked her to materialize in order to allow us to take a picture. We placed the toys in strategic places, and showed her how to turn them on. We placed the mirror in the room covered with flour and asked her to write her name in it.
Were we successful? Yes and no.
None of the toys were ever turned on, and the mirror was not written on. However, I have a photo taken at the exact moment we asked her to materialize that shows a black teddy bear and outline of what could be a young girl. Note I said – what could be, as it truly is just not clear enough to stand up and say yippee. However, as one of the lead investigators in this matter I was fascinated as well as perplexed by the black teddy bear. There were no black teddy bears in the building, and the bear is very distinct. I took the picture, so I at least know it hasn’t been doctored. So how do I explain the back teddy—I couldn’t and it upset me, so I decided to talk with a minister. The minister had no problem seeing the teddy bear or the little girl for that matter. He suggested that perhaps the bear was more distinct because she remembered the bear. Remembered how it looked. If she were only 2 or 3 as the story suggested, she might not remember how she looked. She was attempting to communicate in a way that we could understand. She was attempting to do as we asked. I left in tears, because we had not been able to understand her. She must have felt the same frustration I now feel.
A few seconds after the picture was taken the infrared sensor in the doorway went off signaling that something has passed that way. We have photos of several suspicious orbs that do appear to take on human faces and shapes (we also have thousands that are nothing more than dust particles).
We will be returning to this site this weekend to attempt to verify our earlier information, or debunk the same. I want to apologize to her for missing her signals. I want her to know that we did get a picture and we truly appreciate how much effort she put into working with us. I have so many questions I want to ask her. I guess I will never be just a “ghost hunter”. That will never be enough for me. I don’t simply want to know that they exist. I want to know how. I want to know why. And if there is something holding them to this world that I can help them accomplish—I want to do that too.
I will update this escapade in the near future. In the meantime, take at look at these photos and tell me what you think--do spirits/ghosts exist?
Note the investigator is looking up, but his shadow is looking down. He had two shadows most of the evening, but this was the only instance in which they did different things. As you can see, the teddy bear is pretty plain. Unfortunately the little girl is not.

As you can see—he’s moving along. Additional pictures show the orb descending as it continues to change what appear to be facial expressions.
Second Orb:
This orb actually followed the ceiling beam all the way across the room. It too appeared to change shapes and facial features as it traveled across the room.
These are only two examples of orbs that were photographed in this location. There were literally thousands of orbs that crossed the video screen, however the majority were simply dust orbs.
